CPAP causing colds/sinus infections??
Hi my friends; I searched but couldn't find anything on this. I've been on CPAP therapy for four months, and in that time, I've been sick three times. One was a bad cold with lasting cough, and the other two "fairly" mild colds or sinus infections. Before that, I hadn't been sick for at least three years. I've tested each time for Covid and all negative. Could my CPAP be causing or exasperating these? I clean everything only once per week, and I don't wipe down my nasal cushion in between those cleanings. Any advice? and THANKS in advance ! DD

Hi,
_ " ...I clean everything only once per week...". It may be the culprit! _ I started all this on August 2017. Coincidently, some 4 months later, I had the only single cold/infection since then. No doubt, as per a stupid MD directions, I was not cleaning properly my machinery: the cause! all the best and good luck

Nearly all upper respiratory infections are caused by viruses (rather than bacteria) which are acquired from inhalation from people we encounter in life. I don’t think there is any data to suggest that these types of infections are caused by CPAP use.

I'd agree that you might want to at least wipe your nasal mask down every day if only to make it seal better to your face, but definitely think that it was a coincidence. If you're not emptying out your water every day then that could potentially be a source of infection, but that would be bacterial or fungal, not viral like a cold. Also, make sure your humidity is high enough because that can cause headaches, sinus irritation, etc if it's too low.
