Cpap and heart

I have mitral valve regurgitation. I started cpap around 6 months ago. I was hoping it would improve but now its worse.  Anybody have any experience or thoughts on this? Thank you

I only know what I read about it on the internet. I don't think CPAP affects it one way or the other. That's a condition you need to talk to a cardiologist about.

Agree with Walla Walla, it is definitely something you need to discuss with your Cardiologist. I am a Heart Failure (HF) patient and am preparing to go for a sleep study (last one was around 14 years ago, prior to my dx of HF). Have been doing quite a bit of research on the topic and learning that all HF patients should probably undergo a sleep study as a matter of course. Ask your Cardiologist if the value issue is creating any reduction in you ejection fraction (EF - amount of blood your heart pumps out to your body). Hope you find some answers.

Mitral valve leaking is usually a physical thing, not a sleep related thing. What CPAP can do is help with oxygen content in the blood and therefore all the cells, including the cells of the heart. So you are doing good to your heart by using the CPAP. If you do not have a cardiologist, get your GP to recommend one and go see them for a check-up.

My mate had a new valve fitted, but it has a limited life before it has to be replaced, however he is a lot older than I am and he says he will not need a new one, he will be pushing up the daisies before that time comes around.
He feels a lot better now, but I think if he knew what he was letting himself in for he would have worked on with it as it was.  However, his wife says he was getting worse and sometimes couldn't walk very far before he ran out of breath.
He is a lot better now according to her, so it is worth seeing your doctor to discuss it if you have not already.
