A few years ago some folks complained about running out of water and found a solution.  Here's a link:

I actually bought the equipment but never replaced my cover.  I am running low on humidity lately, so maybe I'll give it a try.

Heated hose is a must. The temperature of the air limits how much humidity it can carry.
