I think the real problem here is that we don't get good monitoring of the ongoing treatment. If you have a modern CPAP machine, most apnea problems will show up in the data. You might get some false positives, you might not distinguish obstructive from central, but you will see any serious apnea, and then can do further investigation.
If the CPAP says you're good, you probably are good.
Unfortunately, this valuable, almost free data gets ignored in many cases. Cards are usually only checked for compliance.
