Dread's - Cpap Therapy Thread
Hi all, I am Dread (Julian). I was recently diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Hyponea and was wondering what type of machine would they likely prescribe? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and they said once sleep studies results were shown, I could get a machine. Here is my report, and was curious if APAP or CPAP would be likely. I suspect UARS but need to wait for the ENT on August 30th. I wake up unrested, excessively sleepy, thirsty, craving, often hear whistling in my nose, and did notice a very low hanging palate. I never had any trouble sleeping until a dose of 300mg Gabapentin combined with 5mg Norco. If you are wondering why, I used to take the gabapentin for scoliosis nerve pain, and Norco for severe scoliosis bone pain. Yeah I’m never taking meds again lol.

RE: Recently diagnosed with OSH.
welcome to the forum. I don't see a report. If you don't have a copy to post please summarize as best you can. If you post a copy be sure to redact your personal information, With respect to machine type an APAP is the best choice since it can be set at a constant pressure like a CPAP if necessary.  The Resmed airsense10 or 11 Autoset is the best choice.

You should always post questions and images on the forums, not via Personal Messages (PMs).  Our rules state this, and you can review them again to see the reason for this.

You can simply use the attachment feature instead (right away after registration).
See here:

Or, if you like, go ahead and post the imgur links to your reports, but "break" the link by putting a few spaces in it, like this:

ht tps:// www. imgur .com/picture.jpg

A moderator can then edit your post and take out the spaces for you.  For spam prevention purposes, brand new members can't post links.

Or, simply wait until you get 4+ posts and the system will transition you into the regular members group after a day and you'll be able to post outside links.

Dread, the best machine you’re probably qualified for is the Resmed Airsense 10 or 11 Autoset. It is the most responsive CPAP machine on the market and has an exhale pressure relief (EPR) function that provides the equivalent of bilevel pressure support. This is particularly important for individuals with primarily hypopnea and upper airway resistance (flow limitation). Nasal interface rather than full with strong preference for nasal pillows. You barely qualify for the need for CPAP therapy. You are getting way ahead of yourself.

Curious if effects can be reversed.
I still have a few more weeks waiting for ENT and it is torture but I’m wondering once I get it solved, could I get side effects like diabetes, heart issues, brain, etc reversed. I’m hoping I can get my nail clubbing and brain reversed but I’m not sure.

Thoughts on getting started with cpap?
Hi, all I’ve been diagnosed with OSH and decided to get a cpap out of pocket because every day is awful. Doctors say it’s not sleep hyponea but I feel hypersomlence, cravings and all the symptoms of sleep apnea but with hyponea. I was wondering without a prescription what would be a safe way to start? I’m going to start it, yet without a prescription. I have the sleep study report, and will go to a pulmonogist. I just need to survive for these few weeks. I have my sleep study. It is a rested air sense 10 I am getting.

Your post does not appear to relate to CPAP specifics, so it is hard to understand your issues.

The side effects you mention are serious medical issues involving a multiplicity of factors such as your individual physiology, psychology, behavior, drugs, and environment -- so the general answer is no, they are not reversable, but may be controllable with the correct therapeutic approaches.

CPAP is a therapeutic response to sleep apnea and other limited diseases. It may mitigate further issues, but does not appear to reverse the condition itself. However, certain actions like weight loss or other devices can mitigate symptoms.

Get a good medical workup and then post your issues relating to sleep apnea or xPAP devices.
