I never subscribed to that theory. I expect a product to be reliable or without issue for a reasonable period of time. Then again many people do and that's their choice. They upgrade their car, phone or product every year or two.

whether you subscribe to that theory or not doesn't actually matter. it's the manufacturers that build down to a price, and cut corners in quality and durability that's where the issue is.
lots of people have had problems with their PR System one machines humidifiers going out because of the cheap, underspec'd connectors that respironics used to connect the control board to the humidifier connector. etc.
