Need help with settings switching from Dreamstation AVAPS to ResMed ST-A
Due to the Philips recall, I’m switching from a Dreamstation BiPap AVAPS to a ResMed Aircurve 10 ST-A. I purchased a used one with very low blower hours. It just arrived. I use this type of machine because of muscular dystrophy.
The sleep study was done on a Philips AVAPS machine and shows the following recommended settings.
These are also the settings that I’ve used since I got the AVAPS machine.
Specify AVAPS Pressure
EPAP 12 cmH20
IPAP Minimum 17 cmH20
IPAP Maximum 25 cmH20
Tidal Volume 470 cc
Tinsp 1.5 seconds
Rate 12 bpm
Specify Respiratory Rate 12/min
Heated Humidification
Some of the settings on the ResMed ST-A with IVAPS mode on are different.
Can any of the experts help fill in or change any of them please? Also please correct me if any are wrong.
The following is preset by the seller after sending him my sleep study settings.
Mode IVAPS
Height 62 inches
Target PT Rate 12
Target VA 5.3 L/min
(The following 3 are grayed out and change according to Target VA)
MV 6.3 L/min
VT 531 ml
VT/kg 10.5 mil/kg IBW
EPAP. 12
Min Ps 4.0
Max PS 17.0
TiMax 1.5 s
TiMin 0.3s
Rise Time min
Trigger. Med
Cycle. Med
Mask Pillows
Learn targets (?)
Ramp time OFF
Ramp Down OFF
Climate Control Manual
Can anyone recommend the best changes based on my sleep study results?
I’m questioning the Target VA settings.
If I change Target VA to 4.6
The following grayed out settings look like this
MV 5.6 L/min
VT 473ml
VT/kg 9.3ml/kg IBW
I’m also questioning
Min PS
Max PS
I don’t see a setting
IPAP Min
IPAP Max
Thanks for your help.
Lynn
RE: Need help with settings switching from Dreamstation AVAPS to ResMed ST-A
Actually I have some of the settings that Apria would have set a ResMed ST-A to.
IVAPS
Target Patient Rate 12
VT 470
EPAP 12
Min PS 5
Max PS 13
That looks more accurate for the EPAP, Min and Max PS.
Thoughts?

RE: Need help with settings switching from Dreamstation AVAPS to ResMed ST-A
With this ResMed ST-A, just calculate by way of adding PS to EPAP to know your IPAP. It won't be machine displayed in settings nor is it a direct setting. IPAP is an indirect setting via editing EPAP or PS values.
Note the Learn Targets function does not need to be done. You're setting your settings from the prior machine, so you can safely bypass/skip it.
As best as I can tell, settings are ok.
Try it a night and tell us how it went. Yes it's a good idea to try posting
OSCAR data if you can.
