I merged your two threads LJones (since it's pretty much the same subject matter).
Thanks.

RE: Getting worse - The Great Nap of Mutiny
Max IPAP 25
Min EPAP 4 Min PS 2 Max PS 8 I suspect that my CAs have been severe for some time. I have gained quite a bit of weight over the past 10 years and that has not helped with OAs I'm sure. I called my brother whose apnea is very similar to my own and he said that he couldn't get a good report with such a high PS. So, I am just curious of how tonight will go. I do specifically remember the PA telling me at my last visit that they were "going to order me a machine that will automatically adjust according to my needs." I do think that having the auto in the "on" position was lost in translation somewhere. We'll see. Thanks for all the input everyone.

I would imagine since there is not a Max EPAP setting that the Max EPAP is 17 (Max IPAP - Max PS) as you suggested. If the doctor gives me the go ahead to leave it on Auto, I will ask about reducing that Max PS.

Or, if there is no explicit Max EPAP setting then I would think Max EPAP may be Max IPAP minus Min PS = 23. If doctor says you are free to reduce Max PS I suggest not lowering it unless you see that when the PS being used is high your AHI somtimes gets too high or the Central Apnea Index (CAI) sometimes gets too high. The machine only raises PS as much as it thinks it needs to, to more thoroughly eliminate FL.

RE: Getting worse - The Great Nap of Mutiny
Called Dr. As I suspected the machine was supposed to be set with the Auto function ON! and a Max IPAP of 9 and a Minimum EPAP of 4. Crazy mistake that could have wasted 2 months of treatment.
RE: Getting worse - The Great Nap of Mutiny
So............. the tech (receptionist) from the Dr's office called back. It went something like this. (some parts have been under-dramatized for your reading sanity)
Tech: Mr. Jones I called the oxygen place and they said they set the machine at 9 over 4. Me: Was it supposed to be set to auto? Tech: Yes Me: Well, it was on straight BiPap, Auto was off. Tech: They set it right, it was supposed to be 9 over 4 Me: But you said the auto was supposed to be on, it was off Tech: They set it right Me: So, was the auto supposed to be on? Tech: Yes Me: Then it wasn't set right Tech: They set it right, you should call them Me: Why should I call them? Tech: So they can tell you that they set it right (this is a summary of her explanation) Me: But they didn't. You said the auto was supposed to be on. It was off. Was it supposed to be on? Tech: Yes Me: Can I talk to the nurse practitioner that I saw at my last appointment? She said that the machine would be on auto. The machine has 3 settings CPAP, straight BiPap and Auto Bipap. Which should it be set to? Tech: You should call the Oxygen place Me: I don't want to call the Oxygen place. I want to talk to the woman I saw at my last appointment in Las Cruces. Tech: You want to talk to the Nurse Practitioner? Me: Ma'am, I am not angry at you but I am frustrated... Yes, I would like to talk to the nurse practitioner... Tech: I can have her call you when she is done with patients. Me: That's fine (NO CALL) I so wanted to ask her "Who's on First" SIGH

RE: Getting worse - The Great Nap of Mutiny
So the question is: should it be set on CPAP, or BiPap, or Auto BiPap.......... .......and the answer is "Yes."
