Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
After an initial smooth 6 months of CPAP, it stopped working well and I finally got a sleep test after 7 months. They just gave me my new BIPAP.
With the CPAP, ever since April, half the time I'd wake up with the CPAP mask on the floor. I tried 5 days of this BIPAP but I can't keep the mask on just like the last 7 months with my crippled CPAP, I feel like I'm suffocating. If I'm reading their screen right I'm ripping the mask off in my sleep after only 15 minutes. I can often get 6 hours with the old CPAP.
My cognitive abilities are rapidly declining. I no longer go out in public because I get confused and do stupid things. It's unnerving to watch my ability to function slip away.
It's not the mask, we've established that.
Does anyone have some hints on perhaps adjusting my BIPAP or something? It's a Phillips Respironics Dreamstation set at 11 and 17. The doc said the BIPAP had no algorithm like the AirSense used to make it easier to breathe- at least I think that's what he blurted.

RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
The Dreamstation BiPAP comes in two models, Pro or 'S' and the Auto. Both have BiFlex which eases pressure transitions and that can be turned on or odd and ha 3-setting levels. If your setting are EPAP 11 and IPAP 17, then your problem may be too much pressure support with 6-cm pressure difference.
Let's review the setting of your old CPAP and be sure we know what model your new machine is and be sure we know what is going on. Downloading #Sleepyhead and posting a chart would be a big help. If you don't tolerate the Philips, ask for the Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto.

RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
Thank you. I downloaded Sleepyhead months ago but feel overwhelmed even thinking about loading it and trying to figure out how to work it.
Let me give it a try.
RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
Tim, please consider sharing any sleep test results. I'm curious why you were shifted to BiPAP, and if it was due a central apnea problem, then you are still on the wrong machine. If you did not get a copy of the study and results and recommendations, then you should request a copy for your records ASAP. I suspect the answers we are looking for are in that report, and don't expect the doctor to share that information,as many assume you are not capable of understanding.
RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
Had to get my son to come over and help me with the software.
My old CPAP pressure setting was 17. This BIPAP was so bad I have gone back to the old CPAP (AirSense 10) which I can tolerate half the nights I use it.
This BIPAP is a Phillips. Here's the summary from Sleepyhead.
(The last time you used your Philips Respironics Auto BiPAP...
was 17 days ago (on Saturday, October 6, 2018)
You had an AHI of 15.35, which is considered horrible, please consult your doctor
You only had the mask on for 0 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds.
You had no major mask leaks (maximum was 87.00 L/min).
Your machine blasted you with a constant 13-17 cmH2O of air."

I have my five days on a csv file. Not sure if you can access that.
I'll include a screenshot, too.

I was switched to BIPAP because, after several months of decent CPAP therapy, it went bad on me and starting last April it felt like I was suffocating nightly. Took me a month to realize the air filter was clogged, but it didn't improve once I replaced it. April and May I had constant headaches made worse by sound. After a 2nd time of techs at the local CPAP store adjusting, I could tolerate it half the time I used it.
So they sleep tested me Aug 31 for BIPAP.
RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
I need the breakdown of events by type. I suspect central apnea and hypopnea, but the summary from the welcome screen is not useful.
RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
I'm unfamiliar. What tab or such should I click to get what you want?
RE: Got new BIPAP and I can't use it
If you are using Sleepyhead, we are looking for the Daily details chart. This is described in the Organizing Sleepyhead Charts linked below in my signature.
If you want to use the onscreen data from your CPAP, then enter the clinical menu, go to Essentials, turn the setting from On to Plus, and the expanded therapy information will be visible in the Sleep Report menu on the CPAP screen.
