Finding New Provider

RE: Finding New Provider
Well, I did it. I searched online in this area for sleep specialists first. Then I narrowed it down quick to one who works out of a hospital and has been doing this for over 30 years, longer than anyone else in the area. Yes, he makes my old doc, who I never met, seem like a you know what. The only one I met was his nurse practitioner. That poor woman runs his office and crams her own appointments in and does most of his too while he's off doing his thing wandering around hospitals, etc. I was shocked beyond belief when someone at the new doc's sleep study cut down my old doctor and said everyone knew his practice was a joke. I do realize it's very unprofessional for one medical professional to openly criticize another. The one who did was a young sleep technician who was being too honest, really, but I sure appreciated it. I felt in my gut I was getting a raw deal and it turns out it's common knowledge the sleep doctor I had has a bad reputation in the area. I'm wondering why my family doctor recommended him. I asked her and she said he is a good doctor but spreads himself too thin. I got P*ssed but never said what I thought. Why on earth did you send me to him, lady? Oh well, that episode is over and I've moved on based on my own gut feeling on how i was being treated. I guess I deserve brownie points for having ESP enough so that I knew i needed to keep looking for better medical care. Heck, I'm not so dumb after all. Love, DJ

RE: Finding New Provider
I am so sorry. I lucked out with my first sleep doctor. But my primary care doctor is very bad. Even when the sleep doctor called her to ask her to refer me to o an ENT she never did the referral. I am now looking for a
Primary care doctor and am in a similar position as you. It is very difficult. This is what I have do that you could try: First I asked everyone I know if they know a good doctor. Then I went to the Best Doctors List at Honolulu Magazine website. (I live in Honolulu.) I found many and just started calling. I have three upcoming appointments. (I hope one of them is a good one.) If you live in a big city or near to one there might be a best doctors list put out by a magazine. You can search under sleep doctors. You could check it out. Good luck!
Kimberly from Honolulu
