How do I get prescription from dr?

The records are yours. Possibly you spoke with a receptionist or some office person who maybe wanted to power struggle with you. Make an appointment with your doctor and ask him/her personally to write you a prescription, as you are a current user of a CPAP machine.
Be upfront with him/her, let them know you are in the market for another machine, as you currently use one.

yes, it was the receptionist and one of the nurse helpers. Thanks, I'll try it.

I would not make an appt with the sleep specialist just to ask for a prescription for the mask and/or machine that you want to get online vs a local supplier. You or the insurance company has to pay for that visit. You will waste the time to go there, sit in the waiting room for an hour, then sit in the exam room for another long period of time just for a five minute or less appt with a soon-to-be annoyed dr who will, most likely, not write the script for you. If he/she does write it for you, if you make an appt just for that, with a specialist, my bet is getting an appt again is going to be difficult.

Call back and ask to speak with his/her nurse or PA. That's what their job is. To ferret out these things so that face-to-face appts can be used appropriately. Or, better yet, ask for the copy that they already have on file. Just like many of us have already advised you to do.

I got a prescription from my GP, during a check-up. Got to see them face-to-face, but also didn't have any upset over scheduling a visit just to get the prescription.

If you have not been to see the doctor in two years, it is almost certain that they will not write a new prescription.

You sleep study results, yeah, you should be able to get that. Given that it was 10 years back and that you have not been an active patient in tow years, possibly archived at this point and could require an administrative charge to pull you a copy. I do know, however, that on mine the dr. wrote it specifically as a "Lifetime need" - now that will likely not fly from an insurance payment/reimbursement standpoint, but it will work for DMEs to sell the stuff to me - machines too.

I understand the frustration in both cases, but I also see their side of it. Can probably get a new Rx for supplies but will require dr/clinic/PA/Nurse Practitioner visit.

My 2nd machine which was 3yrs after I got my first, was from a RX with a brand new Primary doctor that I had never seen before. I provided a copy of my sleep study, told them the other machine was broken, they contacted insurance, and I got a new machine in about week.

6yrs later, my most recent machine required a sleep study but it had been 9yrs by then since the last, the report was missing info and the center it was taken at no longer existed.

Situations depend on your situation.

A lot has to do if you need to go through insurance or not. If insurance is not involved, the path is much easier and options to purchase as well.

The Rx is yours and must be given to you. Also, the Rx should also say either "lifetime" or "99 months". If the doctor will not give you YOUR prescription, tell him you will report him to the medical board.
