I don’t have the slightest clue on what to do.

I don’t have the slightest clue on what to do.
Hello Everybody,

My name is Austin, I’m 30 years old I was recently diagnosed with severe complex sleep apnea with an AHI of 57. I was not in a position to be very picky on the machine the DME gave me. I’m currently using the Dreamstation Bipap ASV I’ve had the machine now a full week. Ive been going back and forth between 2 masks I have the Philips Dreamwear full mask and the Rio II nasal pillow mask. Im not sure what numbers are what but I will post a picture of my current prescription numbers.

I’m having a really rough time. I’ve averaged about 2 hours a night before I give up and take off the mask and turn off the machine. I’ve tried to mess with the “Flex” setting going from 3 to 2 then back. I’ve messed with the ramp settings and currently Im starting at a 6 with ram time of 25 minutes. But my biggest problem is going to sleep then staying asleep once I fall asleep. I feel like it’s forcing me to breathe faster then I want to and that I can’t exhale all the way before it’s already trying to force another breath down my lungs so it’s very uncomfortable. I’m trying so hard to use the machine. I need to feel better already. I feel absolutely terrible all day long at work then when I get home from work I have 3 young kids that need a happy and active father but instead they are getting a very tired and somewhat grouchy father. I can’t be my best self and my only hope for me right now is to make this darn machine work for me. I need all the advice and help I can get.

Also, during my sleep studies I didn’t have such a hard time as I’m having now with the device. I actually could not wait until I had my cpap machine because I thought things were going to start getting better and I was going to start feeling better but instead it has been a nightmare. PLEASE HELP!!!

sorry for my spelling and punctuation..

RE: I don’t have the slightest clue on what to do.
I don't have the experience or expertise on ASV machines to advise you on what to do, but it looks like there is a solution. Someone will come along shortly with advice on what settings you should change so that the machine doesn't start forcing a breath before you've finished exhaling.

Meanwhile, please download the free OSCAR software, upload the data to your computer, sort your charts, and then upload your charts in a new post in this thread.

I would request the ResMed AirCurve 10 or 11 ASV if at all possible.

Your settings image seems nearly default except the min EPAP 7.

Agreed we'll want to see an OSCAR chart to assist.

RE: I don’t have the slightest clue on what to do.
Thank you guys for replying! I will most certainly get a report from Oscar over to you tonight or tomorrow morning by the latest.

I would love to eventually get an Air curve 11 ASV. I currently am in between insurances until March. My current insurance does not cover any type of machines if your over the age of 21 which is absolutely crazy to me. Anywho, I’m 100 percent cash pay at the moment so I’m having to work with what I got until March or April. Hopefully we will be able to fine tune this machine to get me taken care of for a few months. I do appreciate your guys help!!
