Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
So I was using the F40 for 2 weeks or so now and originally loved it. However, I recently developed blister under my nose and under my lower lip/chin. Not sure why this mask causes this vs. The F30 or F30i for me.

Went back to the F30i last night and relieved the pain. Will see next time I give it a try.

Is there anyone around here using an AirTouch F20 that could give us a comparison with the F40? I know that they are not the same mask style, but I think that all that matters is leaks, comfort and efficiency. So that would be an interesting comparison in my opinion.

Yes, I have both sitting next to me. They're both fantastic masks but I prefer the F40 due to the fact I can read comfortable wearing glasses. Also the no leaks thing is way better on the F40 compared to most masks like this like the Fisher Paykel full face mask that I own as well. The F40 bends and conforms to your face so there's virtually no leaks as well. I would say the AT F20 and F40 are on the same ballfield when it comes to comfort, no leaks, and just being great. The F40 in my opinion does beat all the other mask styles like this due to the conformity, no hard plastic anymore, and no leaks whatsoever.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

So then I'm gonna get an AT F20 while I wait for Health Canada to approve the F40.

MrIvanDrago,
It's strange that we both have the same problem.
I can not say silicone is the problem because the F30 is made of silicone also

Yes, @car54 the Airfit F40 setting on the unit is "pillows". There is a very visible instruction right on the packaging.

Related..... per Resmed, there are issues with SmartStart with pillows masks. I experienced this on Night 1. I'd call the problem FullStop, yep, the machine kept shutting itself down instead of SmartStarting. I have to manually push the on/off to re-start.

So far, I quite like the F40. I like the front hose. The standard head-dress is very large, though. I've had to max in the straps. I also use a Pad-a-Cheek on the back at the nape of my neck because the configuration is tight right there.

I also have the no Smart Start problem with the F40 and Resmed AS10. The easiest way to work around this is to hold a finger over the anti asphyxia valve on the short tube and breath until the AS10 "self starts". About 3 seconds.

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I had been using the AirTouch F20 for about 2 years with good results with low leak rates. The problem was that the large cushion was too large and the medium cushion caused irritation of a bony bump on my nose. The fix was a small bandage every night. Since the F40 never touches that part of my nose, it is working great for me. I'm still trying to figure out how to minimize the F40 leaks. I've had a low of 2ml and high of 13. I replaced the large head gear with the standard and that helped. I believe the leak rate is influenced by the mask being to tight, the temperature of the Climate Line hose and of course the magnetic clip popping off when side sleeping. I'm sure I will find the right combo. Good luck.

Not sure if anyone else have noticed this, but if you try and lift the mask to correct a leak the magnets fall off.  I feel the magnets are not as strong as the F20,F30 or F30i. This has happened several times to me.
I also agree the  smart stop doesn't work all the time.

At least, Resmed acknowledges the SmartStart problem with pillows masks.

For the poster who was getting sores below lower lip and below nostrils on the F40. Maybe a different size cushion would work?
