RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
(03-14-2024, 07:05 AM)dwedward Wrote: cathyf they have three sizes each of the frame, the headgear and the cushion. I've seen these bundles on web-sites so far:
- Standard Frame with Medium Cushion
- Standard Frame with Small Wide Cushion
- Standard Frame with Large Cushion
- Small Frame with Medium Cushion
- Large Frame with Medium Cushion
On the Resmed website, I found a printable size guide for the cushion, and I am definitely a medium. But I have not found any guidance for the frame. Has anybody found that?
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
Can't wait to get the F40 here in Canada.
Based on The CPAP Store's youtube hands-on review of the F40, it seems it will be even better than the Evora Full I am currently using.
Please Health Canada, hurry up!
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
CPS 22, I believe the frame is the same for all the cushion sizes. I think the only variables are the cushion sizes and the headgear sizes. If I am incorrect please let me know.
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I think you are correct - it is the headgear that comes in 3 sizes, not the frame. But is there any guidance anywhere about how to determine which headgear size is right for a particular person?
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
Yes! - inquiring minds would love to know the scoop on this! It will more than likely be my full face mask in the future to use when my nasal cushion isn't cutting it during my run with allergies\headcolds this season. I need the option to cover the mouth in order to open it, in case I can't breathe at all thru my nose during those times so thinking this may be a good one.
Any who could clarify the sizing of both mask\frame and headgear hopefully will chime in on this!!

RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I've been using the F40 for 10 days now. I've tried the small and standard headgear and am using the standard. The small is very small. The standard headgear seems roughly the same as (or maybe slightly smaller than) the regular headgear on the F & P Evora which I have been using for the past year. You probably have a larger range of headgear adjustment on the Evora than the F40. I'm using the medium cushion which also seems roughly the same size as the Evora s/m. Overall the F40 is about 30% lighter than the Evora. I'm finding the headgear and cushion a little more comfortable than the Evora. One thing that I really like about the F40 is that the hose attachment to the F40 swivels unlike the fixed attachment on the Evora, and it sort of rearranges itself as I turn and move while sleeping. I've had problems with leaks on every mask I tried, but after a few days with the F40, I think that I've finally figured out the best adjustments to make to deal with the leaks. I plan to keep on using it.
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
Got my F40 yesterday from CPAP supplies. Wore the F40 mask last night for the first time. More comfortable than my F30 and kept a great seal all night. My AHI stays around 2.0 avg but this morning it was .50 AHI. Lowest it's ever been in 5 years. I did change the mask setting to 'Pillows' as suggested by ResMed manual.
Using the standard head gear and medium cushion. So far so good, the mask allowed me to sleep on my side more comfortably than the F30.
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I have been using the F40 for 4 nights and am overall very pleased with it. Previously I used the F20 AirTouch for several years and was pleased with its performance, but the F40 is much lighter, kepts a good seal as I change position and leakes less the 4 ml all night.
That being said, I have developed an irritated spot between my nostrils and upper lip. I have been using the Large Head Gear and a Medium Cushion. Just ordered a Large Cushion that I hope soves the irritation ptoblem.
I will post results. By the way I have a light beard and the F40 seems to work OK with it.
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
If you look on the resmed site, they have three different frame sizes, in addition to three cushions and three headgears. So, it's either highly customizable, or complex and confusing! :-)
I'm using the standard frame with a large mask, and i ordered a separate large headgear. That works pretty well for me, as the standard headgear pulled up on my nose a little bit as the top strap was too short. Darn Resmed for not making that adjustable!
I've also ordered the large frame to see if it makes a difference.
At any rate, this is still by far the most comfortable mask i've used. While I'm at high pressure (average around 20) I can literally move my mouth all around, open, close, etc... and have NO leaks. The all silicone mask adapts to the moving face. Fantastic!! I also tried side sleeping on it (I'm normally a back sleeper), and it felt just as comfortable and NO leaks.
RE: Introducing the ResMed AirFit F40
I have been using the F40 now for about 10 days. I have had zero leaks, zero. I have always done decent with leaks but typically the 99.5% would show something in OSCAR. 0 with this mask. It's the best hybrid mask by far and it's not even close.
