Is built-in oximeter data compatible with OSCAR?

Is built-in oximeter data compatible with OSCAR?
I'm interested in getting oximetry data into OSCAR. I know that it can import data from separate oximeters, like those from Contec. However, my dreamstation is also capable of gathering oximetry data directly using an accessory. Presumably the oximetry data would them be available directly along with the other data from the dreamstation. I understand resmed has a similar product. Before I pursue getting one further, I was wondering if anyone knows whether OSCAR accesses this data? It seems like not too many people use this accessory (it's pricey) so I wouldn't be surprised if no one thought to build this in.

What do you think?

Because of the cost, there has been a few on this forum that has used this type of sensor, and those were of the Resmed brand.  The collected data will show up in the Daily and Overview screens as an additional graph. No separate importing of data is required.

Yes, OSCAR does import the oximetry data produced by Philips machines.

Because the oximetry sensor is so expensive, we've only encountered that data once, on a pre-DreamStation autoSV machine. But there's no reason it shouldn't work for DreamStation data as well.

I use a ResMed Oximetry Kit which provides the ResMed adapter, the Pulse Oximeter (NONIN XPOD 3012 LP), the sensor, and cabling. All available from Vendor #19 at a respectable price. Plus, Kevin Cooper provides impeccable customer service. I ordered an extra 3-foot cable to avoid entanglements with short cords.

It works well with ResScan and OSCAR (although part of the data is not displayed on the summary page as it is with other lesser devices. The two critical factors, pulse rate and O2% show up in the detail page and reports. Only the changes show on the summary page, not the actual pulse rate and O2 saturation percentage.

Unless you have a specific need for monitoring over the longer-term, you might find the cost outweighs the convenience.

RE: Is built-in oximeter data compatible with OSCAR?
I'm new to posting in a forum, so bear with me.

I have the same equipment that you do and I recently purchased the Philips Nonin Pure SAT l SpO2 after borrowing a unit from my CPAP supplier. Another piece of equipment necessary is a device to connect the Oximeter to the CPAP machine either through a DreamStation Cellular Modem or a DreamStation Link Module. I have a DreamStation Cellular Modem which I am not happy with because, as a Canadian, I do not want my medical information stored in another country where I have no control over its 3rd party distribution.  Unless you need a Cell Modem I would go with the Link Module, no exporting of personal data automatically.

My health care insurer, luckily for me, does cover my Oximeter.

I can say that it does work directly with Oscar and it shows Pulse Rate and SpO2 graphs as well as SpO2 Drop and Pulse Change.

There are some issues within the Oscar program in how it presents some of the data which I hope to address with some of the Oscar software developers. When I go into AFib it shows that my SpO2 goes up to 255%, which is impossible as it should not go above 100% max.

The reason that I wanted the Oximeter is, among all of my issues, I also have AFib, this device and Oscar shows when I go into AFib and how fast my heart beats and how it correlates with other CPAP factors.  I will be working with my Sleeping Disorder Specialist Physician and my Cardiologist to sort out the issues.  In my case, one day I can be "normal" and then I can go off the rails so continuous monitoring shows that variance.

Hope this helps.

Ron, I'm with you on not liking the cellular modem. My insurance makes me use it for two months while I rent the machine before they will actually buy the machine. After that, I am going to take it out. While I'm renting I also can't switch it into auto mode or mess with the pressure. I was very tempted to just buy a machine on craigslist...they cost about as much as my coinsurance on this purchase, but then there would be no strings attached.

If I can figure out a cheaper way to get this oximeter going, I'm going to opt for the link module (new, a reasonable $100). The problem is that the SPO3 assembly and associated sensors are outrageously priced. What I wonder is whether there might be generic assemblies and sensors that work with it. It's a USB connector...I'm sure they don't pay a grand for USB oximeters in China.

I'm sure my insurance would pay the big bucks for it if I had a prescription, but I don't have any heart issues that I know of, so I think that's unlikely. Basically I just want a poor-man's polysomnograph every night so I can tweak the parameters of my sleep environment. When consumer-priced EEG's become available, I'll be all over that. If they plugged into my CPAP, that would be optimal.

Welcome!

The OSCAR development team would love to take a look at your data and see if what you're seeing is the result of a bug on our end, or if it's an artifact of the DreamStation oximetry system.

If you're willing to send us a zip of your SD card data so that we can look into this, send me a PM and I'll provide a link to bonjour's dropbox to upload it.

Thank you for letting us look at your data! The next release of OSCAR will correctly identify those samples as missing data rather than 255 bpm or 255% SpO2, and will show gaps in the chart accordingly.

RE: Is built-in oximeter data compatible with OSCAR?
Hi,

I have a DreamStation.  I purchased the oximetry link module and oximeter.  It is installed and appears to be working correctly.  I am happy to share an image of my SD card.   I don't see the oximetry data in Oscar.  If someone on the Oscar team would like my data, please tell me where to send it!  My goal is to correlate spO2 with other indices.  I've separately collected oximetry data in Bodimetrics format.  I'm able to get a .csv file from that device, so that is another source that, in principle, could be imported into Oscar.  But my first hope is that someone can give me guidance on how to view data from the internal oximetry module of the Dreamstation.  Thanks in advance!

Best,

David
