I'm a 44-year-old male who started CPAP therapy in February 2024. In general, I think treatment is going well. I feel rested. But I'd feel even more rested if I could figure out why I wake up once a night, about 6 hours into my sleep, to urinate. After this, I struggle to fall back asleep. I'm trying to determine if this is age-related or if I need to adjust my Airsense 11 settings.
To manage this, I've already implemented the following:
Restricting all liquid intake after 8 PM
Avoiding alcohol completely
Limiting caffeine to one cup of coffee in the morning (6-7 AM)
Maintaining a consistent bedtime of 11 PM
My goal is to achieve 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Has anyone experienced similar issues or have insights on how to improve sleep continuity with CPAP therapy? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If you're sleeping well enough your body normally prevents you from feeling you need to urinate. I started waking up at least once per night just before figuring out I have sleep apnea. I no longer do. Another cause can be prostate issues.
Breathe through your nose
Reduce sugar and processed food
Soft collar and tape
Can you provide a zoomed in period just before you woke up on this night and 2 other nights? Might see if something caused arousals. Also do you have a way of measuring O2 sats?
You didn't have bad Flow Limit values, but it is still good to include that graph as the timing of any flow limitation could show an arousal cause.
Also the pressure graph can be helpful since it is not constant. Please include these on future screen shots
On Jan 10th the OA around 4:36 might have aroused you maybe a similar shorter set of events on the 9th of Jan, at around 4:58 and 5:59:40 or so. On Jan 8th small events at 5:49:40 and 5:52, hard to say if they could cause an arousal.
Hopefully some of the more experience people can add their insight
I used to think getting up to urinate was now part of my nightly ritual, but minimizing arousals by help provided here proved to be otherwise.
Good luck
