JETSTAR and my CPAP Machine

Will JETSTAR Australia count my CPAP machine in my carry on luggage weight allowance? I'm flying international in a couple of weeks but I only want to take carry on luggage which the allowance is only 7 kilograms.

Can't seem to get a straight answer out of JETSTAR.

CPAP Machines
CPAP machines are usually operated by an electric or battery power supply.

Electric CPAP machines cannot be used on board any Jetstar flights
Battery operated CPAP machines can be used on board as long as you get medical clearance first.
You can bring electric or battery CPAP machines on board in your carry-on baggage without medical clearance so long as you don’t use it and it is within size and weight restrictions

As to the size and weight restrictions, it seems to vary depending which of the orange cancer franchises you're flying on, when you fly and when you made your booking. However I think (from the above) that the weight of your CPAP will be included in the 7, 10 or 20kg limit.

You might want to argue the toss under the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport, which states:
30.1 Disability aids to be in addition to baggage allowance
(1) Disability aids (for example, equipment and apparatus including mobility, technical and medical aids) are to be in addition to normal baggage allowances.
(2) If possible, disability aids are to be treated in the same way as cabin or accompanied baggage.

However the airlines are pretty quick to point out that they aren't "public transport" and therefore the standard does not apply to them. (in which case point them to section 1.12 which includes aircraft as a conveyance for the meaning of the act). It might also be a stretch to say that sleep apnea is a disability.

I flew with them last October on a domestic flight and return and I don't recall them even weighing our carry on items! that said, being Jetstar I assumed they would count it towards the limits and was able to pack accordingly and went the checked baggage option taking only my cpap & handbag as carry on.

They allowed me to, but I took a letter from my doctor stating that I needed it for medical usage on board...
