Long Sleep Help
Got a bit of an uncomfortable mystery I'd like to share. I actually posted this question some time ago, but it's worth a second try. Long time sleep apnea sufferer. My apnea is now corrected to around 0.2 to 0.4 AHI each week, so on that level I'm happy. The mystery, however -- at about 3 hours of sleep (no more than 3.5 or 4), I shoot awake, heart racing, etc. It doesn't feel like a panic attack because I've learned to remain very calm when it happens. The heart racing tends to make me anxious after a while if it continues, but as long as it all calms down fairly quickly, I can usually return back to sleep in 15 or 20 minutes. I don't believe they've ever happened again after that.
It's gotten to where they're so predictable, I usually set an alarm when I go to bed (for about 3 hours), hoping that my sleep will be so broken that it won't happen. Sometimes that work, sometimes not.
I use Sleepyhead, and I check the records but they're usually pretty unimpressive -- maybe a few deep breaths right before i wake up, but I'm not sure that's even unusual. Instead, it's quiet sudden.
It's a long shot, but are there any ideas floating around?
RE: Long Sleep Help
IMHO it is not related to sleep apnea. I'm on CPAP for about 12 years now. Have some minor heart issues since forever. Have bladder capacity of 4 hrs max and usually wake up after 3 hrs of sleep but never with racing heart. In fact, I don't even fully wake up and I'm back fully asleep mere seconds after I'm back in bed.
Everything I post on this board is nothing more than an opinion expressed by an apneak. Normally, it's based on facts and experience but sometimes, I may get things wrong or not have all the facts.
I reserve the right to change my mind. Why? Because tomorrow I may know better.
RE: Long Sleep Help
Might wanna see your PCP about it.

Love your family, treat your friend(s) well, and don't waste your time. Everything else is just so much BS.
RE: Long Sleep Help
I would suggest that you see a Cardiologist soon. If you need to get a referral from your PCP first then do so. He or she should have no problem writing the referral if you tell him/her what you are experiencing.
Best Regards,

RE: Long Sleep Help
IMHO I agree with the two posts above. If it were me, I'd describe my sleep situation to a sleep doc. Mine, like many others, are internal medicine docs who have the added sub-specialty of sleep medicine. (Sleep medicine is a medical sub-specialty) He or she would be in a very good position to consider both sleep-related causes as well as other medical possibilities in figuring out what's going on in your situation.
