Mask Change Anxiety- Questions
I’m anxious about a mask change I need to make. Before I take the financial plunge, I’d like to see if any CPAP’ers out there could share advice or experience. I’d be most grateful.
I’ve been on CPAP for over twenty years. For the last six years I’ve used ResMed Activa mask, a double-gel cushion and a Respironics AutoA-Flex with an average pressure of 12 (Max 14). My Oscar results are good. ResMed has recently discontinued mask and frame.
The ResMed Air Fit P-30i looks desirable, but I am concerned about two issues mentioned: (1) The impact of direct nasal air from the cushions and their ability to stay leak-free under 12-14 pressure.
There was also mention of noise and flow restriction when side-sleeping. Comments welcomed!
RE: Mask Change Anxiety- Questions
I used to use the P30i and liked it quite well, better than the Dreamwear version that is quite similar. I wasn't bothered by noise and did not have trouble with leakage. I liked that the air came in from the top, as it kept the hose away from my torso. I found that I liked the smaller size mask frame, even though the larger size sat on top of my head the way their literature says it should. I gather that this has happened to many people. Overall I think it's a very good mask.
I have since switched to the Bleep system and like it even better. It has more of a learning curve, but I very much like that there is no actual mask and no straps on the head or face. With good insurance, I get all of it for free. If you are uninsured or have poor insurance it is pretty expensive - more than an average mask for sure.
Best of luck at finding something that works very well for you!

RE: Mask Change Anxiety- Questions
If you do not a mouth breather the P30i is a very good mask. There are some that report the air in the tubes cause noise problem for them. I have owned the P30i and F30i and have not had any problems with noise.
The only thing about the P30i is I found the med to small and had to get a large. Btw I would recommend the headgear with “wings” they’re much better than what comes standard. You can get that and replacement nose piece on Amazon for much less.

Are there any of your fav mask available on Amazon or eBay (or any of the suppliers)? You could buy up a bunch to last you a while.
RE: Mask Change Anxiety- Questions
You never know how a mask will work for you until you try it. Keep your old mask handy as you try out different new masks. Your current mask is a nasal mask and you are contemplating changing to a nasal pillows mask? Is that correct?

Indeed.
You should probably look at some of the reviews on the
CPAP Mask Reviews section of the forum.
Good advise so far. If you like your soon-to-be discontinued mask, just look for something similar and give it a try. Make sure to look into the one you choose and see if there is a downloadable fitting template. I use the Hybrid ResMed F30 which covers my mouth and am really happy with it. I am a side sleeper and the mask works fine for me. I also use the Amara View headgear on the F30 since it has a more broadly distributed back panel so I don't get a headache wearing it all night.

Thanks, Hydrangea (wonderful name!)
The places I've looked all have "discontinued" or "out of stock" labels on the cushion. I'll keep looking. Your idea is a good one!

Yes, I am contemplating change to a nasal pillow. Something new for me therefore the anxiety. I have looked at many reviews of the mask. I guess I need to look for a firm that will allow returns, then try it out. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you very much for the reply. I have been poring over reviews from several sources, so I'm ready to go for it. Thanks for the Amara View tip. Very useful.
