She thought it better to thoroughly clean the "in use" gear and have the new stuff waiting until the "in use" gear needed to be replaced. My sleep specialist thinks rotating usage through 2-3 sets of gear is better.

How is a person to know which is better??

I am thinking I will go with through cleaning of one set of gear and keep the new gear new until the current gear needs to be replaced.

I think that is what I will/am doing also .. keeping the one in use cleaned twice weekly till it wears out but keeping a new one in package for a spare if something were to happen to the one in use ..

I can also see keeping certain parts of say the mask that is not worn out when replacing other parts to use later as spare parts .. I wear a surgeons cap while sleeping because my masks head gear tends to pull my hair when I turn my head on my pillow .. so it doesn't get as dirty as with out so its not washed but once every couple of weeks or per month when it does get dirty ..

I'm a new user so am still trying to collect enough supplies for spares ..

RE: tubing replace
I am on about month 9 on my 10' hose (in service date wore off). I wash it every couple of weeks with vinegar and cold water and then hang it over the shower head to dry. Still looks and acts like it is in great shape. I have plenty of spares (6 and 10 footers) in a box in the closet. I wash my mask weekly and wipe it out daily. BTW, I had my first machine for a little over a year and never got anything from the DME. Finally found out the went bankrupt.
