New and unusual air leaks

New and unusual air leaks
Hi,
Ths my first post.  I have been a successful Cpap user for 20 years. It’s a love-hate relationship. I sleep great with it, but hate having to use it. Something strange is happened in the last year. I have learned over the years, to sleep with my tongue against the top of my mouth. It’s never been a problem having mouth leaks. But lately, even with my tongue, I guess the top of my mouth I get these intermittent leaks from around the back of my tongue where air bubbles out through my lips occasionally. I wake up with my mouth completely glued shut. Lips glued together, tongue glued to the top of the mouth lips glued to the teeth. I have to get up and rinse my mouth  or I can’t get back to sleep. I use nasal pillows and a med air since 11. It’s a new machine to me. I use the air since 10 for many years. I’ve played with the pressures. I was prescribed a pressure of 13 PSI. I found that if I lower the pressure between 13 and eight, the leaks are less but still there.  it is like some structures in my nasal passages or throat have changed and are allowing air through where it never happened before. Does anyone have any information on what’s going on and how I can take care of this? It’s really disturbing my sleep. I used to get great sleep every night. Now I wake up with a dry mouth and a headache.

If you could put up your OSCAR charts we could see where the leaks are happening (mouth or mask).  It is a free download from the top of the site.  You need a SD card in the machine  while you sleep.....

I’m clear it’s my mouth. I don’t have software yet. I can feel air escaping around base of tounge, along and past cheeks.
This never used to happen.  It’s like something has anatomically changed in my palate or throat.
I told my Kaiser cpap guy and he had nothing for me.
It’s like I need the higher level of support from more knowledgeable medical folks.   Not sure who they would be.

Are you sleeping on your back when this happens?
I have something very similar when I sleep on my back. My mouth gets bone dry and my tongue glued to the roof of my mouth. My mouth starts getting moist again when I roll on my side.
Since I  started using biotene and xylimelts it has improved. Instead of being dry, it is like mud. It is better and more tolerable.

Like mud.  I guess that’s an improvement. I’m a back sleeper.  Don’t do well on my sides. Is your tongue sucked up to the roof of your mouth ?  Air escaping around the side of your tongue or from throat out front lips?…..I know….sorry. A bit graphic.

Yes, Xylimelts work great for dry mouth. If you have just a few mouth leaks, you can ignore them. If it's a lot you may need to try mouth tape. I thought using tape would make me feel claustrophobic, but it's actually quite comfortable. Once the tape is on I don't even notice it.

Oscar is the only way we can help you with this and many other issues you may not even know you have.

I wish they had something like that without the xylitol. i have a potential for cardiac issues.

Honeyboy, it comes from the side of my tongue. There are tongue exercises to do to help the situation, you'll have to do a search.
Interesting read about xylimets. I do not believe that 1 or 2 tablets a night harm you. For me, they only last 4 to 5 hours.

My friend's dog ate a mess of stuff with xylitol and nearly died. I understand that xylitol severely affects dogs.

Also, it seems like any study on anything seems to affect our health negatively.

Did tongue exercises help you? Have you solved this problem or is it on going?
