Noisy DreamStation
#51
RE: Noisy DreamStation
I found the cpap too noisy on the table next to my bed.
I put the cpap on a foam flat cushion on the floor, and a little under my bed so it cuts the noise more.

That way it's almost silent.

Plus, with the pressure support off, and a constant 8, it's MUCH more quiet that with the motor doing 5-8 all the time.
Before that I could hear it revving, now I don't.

I got a humidifier and that made it quiet for about 6 nights then a loud groaning sound on inhale was too loud for me to sleep. Took it in for possible exchange and new machine was louder! I Used my previous CPAP for a week, then tried dream station again and now it was quiet again, but groaning sound came back after 6 nights! I’ll give it one more try including taking out the disposable filter. My DME supplier also carries ResMed Airsense  10 so I may be able to swap for that one if it seems quieter.

From what you are describing the problem could be a seal out of place or damaged. It's easy to knock the seal between the cpap machine and humidifier out of place when putting the water chamber in the machine. When my DreamStation was making the same noise you are describing, it turned out the humidifier lid seal was not seated so the lid wasn't sealed even though it was latching.

RE: Noisy DreamStation
I've started having the same problem with my DreamStation.  I'm hearing an almost whistling noise when I inhale and exhale with the machine on.  When I turn the machine off, it comes to a whirring/grinding stop (as the apparatus inside the machine that creates the air pressure is spooling down).  It is something my girlfriend hears as well as myself.  It does make it difficult to get to sleep when it starts immediately upon starting the machine

I have disconnected the humidifier, checked hose connections, checked all of the seals, checked all the filters, and have definitively located that the noise is coming from the air machine after about a year of use.

Any word on Respironics having a recall for this issue on their DreamStation machines?

You might be able to narrow down the source of the noise using an automotive stethoscope.  If it is coming from where the flow generator and humidifier join, it is probably a seal. If it is coming from the flow generator, that is a bigger problem.  Most of these units dispensed by DMEs and funded by insurance are covered for 3-years, and 2-years otherwise.  No recalls are out there I'm aware of.

RE: Noisy DreamStation
My DreamStation is loud if the humidifier isn't attached. With the humidifier, it's as quiet or quieter than my AirSense 10 Autoset.

Gel earplugs have made this a non-issue for me.

Necro-response from 2015, but wanted to reinforce this.

When the weather turns cooler and we no longer need to have a fan running to keep the room from getting too stuffy, it's always a challenge for the first few weeks because we are so used to the sound of the fan masking the sound of the machines.

Are you comparing complete Respironics vs ResMed systems, or just the machine with the same mask?
We have recently moved from the P10 to the Dreamwear, and while we like the Dreamwear overall, it is VERY loud compared to the P10...  louder than the Wisp nasal mask or even the Quattro FFM.

We have recently moved from the P10 to the Dreamwear, and while we like the Dreamwear overall, it is VERY loud compared to the P10...  louder than the Wisp nasal mask or even the Quattro FFM.

My experience has been with a CPAP DreamStation (which I had for a couple weeks), and then an APAP DreamStation (which I've had for a year), plus a ResMed Autoset 10 (which I've owned for 6 months?, and is the quietest thing EVER!).

Here's my experience:
1) CPAP DreamStation + Dreamwear
2) APAP DreamStation + Dreamwear
3) APAP DreamStation + P10
4) APAP DreamStation + Amara View
5) ResMed Autoset 10 + Dreamwear
6) ResMed Autoset 10 + P10
7) ResMed Autoset 10 + Amara View

BY FAR, my ResMed Autoset 10 is practically SILENT.  Whereas both of my DreamStations were/are noisy (and not in the should-be-recalled way that I know many others are coping with).  It hasn't mattered which mask I've used, the DreamStation has HANDS DOWN made way more noise.  I believe the noise comes from the motor.

When I use the Dreamwear (which I don't anymore, due to how noisy it is), I hear the noise it makes (no matter if I use it with the DreamStation or the ResMed Autoset 10). Dreamwear's noise comes from the tubes going alongside the face.

DreamStation's noise comes from the motor.
Dreamwear's noise comes from the tubes along the face.
I *feel* better when I use a DreamStation.  And the Dreamwear is more comfortable on my face. But it's too much noise for me, doubley so.

ResMed Autoset 10 is so quiet!
P-10 is so quiet!
This is the quietness dream-team!  I can sleep with these 2, with no white noise in the room, and it's wonderfully quiet!

Hydrangea, can you please clarify "I *feel* better when I use a DreamStation.  And the Dreamwear is more comfortable on my face. But it's too much noise for me, doubley so."

How do you *feel* better when you use a DreamStation?

I am tearing my hair out over the noise. At first it was fine, then it progressively became an issue, and now I can't use it at all due to noise which I now know is a HUGE issue as my apnea is severe Sad
