Number of Events?

Number of Events?
I have been using cpap for a couple of years now and find it to be of benefity for sure.

Howver, I have a question. If I sleep on my side (either one) I get fairly low number of events per hour (say 7 or 8), but when I sleep on my back I get twenty plus. Unfortunately, my sleep seems better on my back than on my side.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks.

Welcome to the board. AHI of 8 to 9 is to high. That means that each house you are not breathing for at least 10 seconds at a time for 8 or 9 times. Meaning you oxygen level is less than 90% for ? Time at night.

From what you wrote about sleeping on your back you have positional apnea. Please post Oscar charts and seek help.

Oscar is totally free at the top of the site. You will need an SD card in the machine when you sleep. Then post your charts from Oscar. The charts we need are in my signature at the bottom of this post.

Your computer should have a USB port. Get a USB card reader. They are available online, and at many big box stores.

Okay, Red. Thanks a lot for the info. One question: my Resmed Airsense 11 does not have an sd card already installed so I suppose I need to buy one. But what size (capacity) do I need to accomodate OSCAR?

RE: Number of Events?
You're in luck. Prior to the Resmed 11 series, the maximum size was 32GB. With the release of the AS11, you can go up to at least 128GB. You don't even begin to need one that large, but trying to find smaller cards is starting to be a problem. Basically, anything 4GB or larger will be fine. You can find SD cards at pharmacies, big box stores, and online. Look for one that has a fair price. You don't need to overbuy.

Before I forget; SD cards can and do go bad. For this reason, we highly recommend that you create a dedicated directory on your PC and store the SD car's data there. When you wish to import your data into OSCAR, simply select this directory name as the source for the data.

RE: Number of Events?
Red, can you clarify, do you mean by a dedicated directory that you copy the data from the SD card to that directory just before importing? I've been creating a backup, but usually importing straight from the SD card. Is it keeping the backup that is important, not importing directly from the card, or both?

Does this change the setting in the Preferences about OSCAR keeping a copy of the SD card?

RE: Number of Events?
OSCAR makes a partial backup. Not all files from the SD card are stored. Depending on your OS, you can use a command that is, or performs like, rsync to keep the PC directory up to date with the data from the SD card. If your SD card ever fails, you can copy this directory back to the new card. A lot of people use a USB card reader. Depending on which port you connect to, and having other peripheral devices connected, can change the card reader's PC designator (drive letter). By having OSCAR use the PC's data directory, you will not experience this problem.
