OSCAR with AirCurve 11 ASV, also Mac scrolling issues
Hello!

I have a ResMed AirCurve 11 ASV machine, and I get this warning message with OSCAR (using version 1.5.3):

Quote:Your ResMed CPAP device (Model 39491) has not been tested yet.

It seems similar enough to other devices that it might work, but the developers would like a .zip copy of this device's SD card to make sure it works with OSCAR.

I have a few questions/observations regarding use of OSCAR with this machine and OSCAR in general:
  • The message says that the developers would like an archive of the SD card, but there's no information about how to send a file to the developers. There's no email address in the About window. There's no email address on the OSCAR website. There isn't even any indication of who on this forum—which seems to be the only way of contacting anyone related to OSCAR—is a developer who should be sent this requested data. This is frustrating and not a positive first impression for a new user. I would attach the data to this post, but a) the ZIP file is greater than the 5 MB limit (it's 14 MB) and b) ZIP files are not allowed as attachments. I strongly suggest updating this dialog box with clearer contact instructions. What should I do next?

  • OSCAR appears to import data from this machine. However, I've noticed that it has never registered any events as Obstructive Apnea (OA), Clear Airway apnea (CA), or Unclassified Apnea (UA) whatsoever. It only ever registers Hypopnea (H) events and Large Leak (LL) events. Perhaps the machine is just that good at treating my sleep apnea, but it seems more likely that something isn't translating properly. When I had an AirSense 11 machine not long ago, I observed many OA, CA, and UA events in addition to some H events. I use a ramp period, and it seems improbable that I haven't had a single OA, CA, or UA during nearly a month of use. Is OSCAR not properly registering OA, CA, or UA events from this machine?

  • This note is not machine-specific. I'm using OSCAR on a Mac running macOS 14.5 (23F79) and the touchpad scrolling gesture behavior in the Daily and Overview panels is broken. Clicking and dragging the right-hand scroll bar works as intended. However, the usual touchpad vertical scroll gesture (two fingers up/down) is interpreted incorrectly as horizontal scrolling most of the time (although not consistently), with occasional random spurts of vertical scrolling. Furthermore, scrolling inertia (the gradual falloff of the gesture after fingers have been removed from the touchpad, ie. a flick of the fingers) is interpreted only as vertical scrolling. So, a single quick two-finger gesture downwards will scroll horizontally while fingers are on the touchpad, but then vertically after fingers have been lifted. This is extremely frustrating behavior, especially because there is no horizontal scroll bar to fall back on (only the left/right arrow keys, which do not allow for fast/large movements). Two finger pinch gestures work properly to rescale the X axis (zoom). The Scroll Dampening setting does not improve this situation; in fact, it only makes gesture scrolling subjectively worse.

    My suggestions to fix this:

    1. Add a horizontal scroll bar as an immediate fail-safe.
    2. Two finger up/down should only scroll vertically.
    3. Two finger left/right should only scroll horizontally.
Thank you so much to everyone who works hard to make and maintain this software; it's truly invaluable!

I'm looking forward to hearing anyone's thoughts about these three issues.

Best,
Dan

Followup to sending the ZIP file [I'd edit my post above but I'm no longer allowed to]:

I found a provided Dropbox upload link in another thread (Dropbox upload request with ID "Z7AvAEAahNyegMHb4Snb" [I'm not allowed to post links as a new member]) and uploaded my ZIP file there.

I would still suggest a different message, since I went through a lot of steps to get to this point.

Also, for security and privacy reasons, there should be a note provided somewhere about the developer's name prior to the Dropbox upload page, which only says "Steve Gearhart." An "sgearhart" is in fact listed as a developer in the credits, but it's hard to find this if you're scanning for the name "Steve," like I was. Tongue

The OSCAR software is an all volunteer project. I just checked, and your data was received. Your data is the first for the AC11 ASV. This will allow further development to accommodate this line of CPAPs in OSCAR in future releases. Thank you.

As far as your touchpad, the OSCAR software is developed on a common IDE platform, Qt (qt.io). The same code is then compiled for the various platforms. As far as I know, there isn't any platform specific code for your touchpad.

Thanks! I'm so grateful to all the volunteer developers, it's a fantastic project. I'm happy to submit the data, and I'd also be happy to submit anything else, or run any tests with the machine, if it would be helpful. I'm glad the data was received. I still think the dialog box text should be updated to provide clearer and more detailed instructions for how to submit the requested data.

I understand that this is the case; Qt is used in many pieces of software, including macOS apps. However, this doesn't mean the issues I'm experiencing necessarily cannot be fixed in OSCAR, or that they necessarily represent problems with Qt itself that could only be resolved upstream. I doubt I'm the only Mac user experiencing these issues. Would it be possible to work with the UI developer to isolate and fix the problem? I'd be happy to provide any assistance necessary in describing and/or reproducing it.

Thank you for the offer to help test OSCAR.  I will keep that in mind.  Concerning the Mac touchpad; whomever will work on this code will need a Mac with a touchpad to test it in real-time.  My Mac systems are relegated to virtual machines on a Linux box.  I don't have a touchpad either.  This will require someone that owns a Mac (with a touchpad) and can code to address this problem.  How are your coding skills? Not awful Tongue I do some C microcontroller and desktop Python coding, and I've done web coding (PHP, JS, etc.) but I haven't worked with Qt before. I'd be willing to give it a shot though, or at least take a look and assess my likelihood of success.

RE: OSCAR with AirCurve 11 ASV, also Mac scrolling issues
re you comment Is OSCAR not properly registering OA, CA, or UA events from this machine.   I have an Aircurve10 ASV (with O2 supplementation) .  The ASV 11 is using the same algorithms as the 10.  ResMed advertizes them in that way in their write-ups --  "featuring the trusted algorithms used in AirCurve 10 devices"   In my Oscar reports for my ASV 10  I only see unclassified or hypo (or leaks) anymore since graduating from the BiPap (which gave the breakouts like you listed above).  I'm no expert but I think the reason is if you were having a CA the ASV algorithms/learnings responds and gives you air/pressure to mitigate away from that that -- and hence CA's breakouts are never reported anymore.  In a way I wish some indication was still reported - but thats just more a curiosity.  I could never go back to the BiPap or CPAP. The ASV is a game changing device if that's the therapy you need. Not sure I will ever get to an AHI of 5 or below -- but the ASV has reduced my AHI better then the other devices were able . Hope it does well for you also.
