CPAP VS BIPAP ISSUES

CPAP VS BIPAP ISSUES
Hi all! I have been on a CPAP machine and used it religiously for about 12 years. Never had a problem with it. About 6-8 months ago, I went to my sleep doctor and they recommended I get a BiPap machine. I got it and I have had a lot of problems. Waking up with a completely dry mouth (mouth, lips, teeth, throat), wake up 2-4 times a night, can't get right back to sleep, and when I do I have horrible (not bad but extremely busy, detailed ) dreams. When I did wake up again I'd be exhausted. I work from home (for a long time) and many times since the BiPap I had to go back to bed sometime during the day. I don't think I could have gone into the office!

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I switched back to my old CPAP machine and I am feeling 100% better. Still wake up once at night but get right back to sleep, feel better and rested when I wake up.

I'm just curious, has anyone had any issues changing to BiPap?

Thanks!

Jim

RE: CPAP VS BIPAP ISSUES
Welcome to Apnea Board.

There are those users that do have issues with BPAP, such as the ones that have Central Apnea. It may or may not be an issue with you though. On the dry mouth and throat, that may be a humidifier issue or mouth breathing.

We like to see data to help address these issues. Get the free OSCAR tool and use it to upload your sleep info from an SD card you place in the BPAP. The SD must be between 2-32GB, any brand, and it can be a standard SD or SDHC, formatted to FAT32. And it must be in the BPAP before sleeping or you have no sleep session data. ResMed's AirView has a very limited amount of data, and isn't too helpful on knowing what your therapy data entails. Also, you should have requested a hard copy of the full detailed sleep study. Post it here as well in redacted format. If you do not have it yet, request it from the ordering physician. In the US, it is yours legally, so they can't deny getting you this under HIPAA.
