[Moderator Note] Do you want us to know when you die? [Apnea Board Postmortem Form]

RE: Do you want us to know when you die? [Apnea Board Postmortem Form]
If you spend any time on the board, you are apt to develop friendships with other members.  Speaking from experience, one day you will notice that a member hasn't posted in a while, and based on their previous posting frequency, you find that odd.   You send them a PM and/or an email without any response.  One day, a family member will respond, informing you of the member's passing.  This has happened several times while I've been a member.

A discussion ensued after one of these events.  The idea to provide a form that could be sent by a family member or friend to inform us was adopted. All you have to do is put a note in your important papers stack with instructions on using it.

USER STATUS
Interesting thread.  Not having any person that can handle my possible succession plan, has presented me with peace-of-mind challenges as the years progress.  My demise would present pure chaos.  My current plan is to survive indefinitely.  Interestingly, I've seen most in my former circle already depart, and not a result of age.  Of course, there's also the potential problem of being incapacitated.  In the past year, I've had several people contact me to request that I be included in their succession plans.  I'd bluntly respond that they could equally outlive me, so I wasn't their best candidate.  As an elderly relative continuously reminds me, "Mother Nature Always Wins".

It's probably a good idea for all registered user sites to annually request user responses, to determine who might be "inactive" for whatever reasons.  It's very often a sad but effective way to determine who is no longer able to be "active" - something that Elon Musk is rather concerned about at the moment.

I just want to add how supportive this forum has been and not just on apnea matters. I've been following the off-topic thread on vaccination and was surprised at how rational and mutually respectful the discussion has been despite people holding very different opinions. In my circle, discussion on such a topic would have led to blows and threats of "secession" from the family/group. The past year has been difficult for many people facing problems on many fronts. A thread for people to discuss problems (not just apnea issues) would be, I'm sure, extremely popular.

Very kind words.  Thanks for bumping this thread again.  I had forgotten about it.

As far as a place to share thoughts and problems not associated with sleep apnea, feel free to start a new thread on most any topic in our Off Topic Forum, here:

I wonder how well it would be implemented. I am a secretary for my masonic lodge (250 members) and most of the time we only find out a member passed when the mail comes back to us (if it does). Our widows are even worse - I have sent out mail to them and get an irate call that they passed one 4 or 5 YEARS ago. I do use a basic background check service to run names I haven't seen or heard from in a while. Oh, and getting them to update their address is another issue....
