I am a BRAND NEW CPAP user(a little over a month) & am having issues with loud leakage from my mask after I fall asleep & then wake up. I originally had a large mask, but after I sized it with the template, switched to a medium mask. I thought that would solve this issue, but it's still occurring. I get very loud leaks after I fall asleep(& I assume the pressure's going up to 15-20). It's fine at 5.0. It sounds like when you let the air out of a balloon real fast or when air is just being squeezed out. This happens several times during the night & I just get frustrated & end up taking the whole thing off. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm trying to make this work. If anyone has any experience with this & has found an answer, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

RE: Loud leaks with mask
Id probably switch to a Simplus ffm.
Then set my machine to 15cm pressure and adjust the mask to not leak at that pressure. A mask adjusted to not leak at 5 is going to leak at 12 or 15. I mentioned switch masks because a Simplus adjusted right will handle 20 cm without leaking or causing sores

RE: Loud leaks with mask
What Ghost said. Your machine should have a "check mask fit" function that should max out your set pressure while you get it adjusted. I've run my Simplus up to 16 with no loud leaks provided that it is tight enough. You can wear it a lot looser at lower pressures with no leaks. It does still sometimes leak around the top of my nose and blow into my eyes. A little pushing and prodding fixes that.
A good fitting, non (or low) leaking mask is crucial to this therapy. Both for quality of therapy and quality of sleep! |
