Snooks, glad you are back out of AF and back home.

I have been following this thread with interest, and happy for your PAP therapy progress.

Is this your real Resp Rate? I don't breathe that fast even after exercise.
What was the RR in your sleep study?
Could you :


a) take a stop watch and check your Resp Rate (RR) while awake, easy enough to do.
b) ask your wife or son to check your RR while you are asleep.
c) do have access to another loaner machine? to see if this a software/machine problem?
d) call the hospital: all the nurses do these days is take obs, obs obs obs and paperwork. They should have a record there somewhere of your Resp Rate while in the ward and during Cardioversion.
e) try putting on the machine and mask while awake for an hour or so and cross check with your real RR with what is written to the SD card?

Maybe post/print off those charts take 'em with you to the supplier.
It the machine is faulty it must be replaced under warranty.

OK well you're still here amigo. My take is I think your cardiac doc, not ever met him, but if the ER-ish call hadn't pulled him away, he was about to discuss something with you. Records, test results, something. Call him on the phone about it is my suggestion.

I'm with Sleeprider on the Holter and Pulse Oximeter. I suggest the one like I just snagged, the Contec CMS50F, a watch like monitor with USB-C connection to charge and for fingertip sensor input. I'll snap a shot and add it via edit here in a few min. I will suggest if you're opting to get any type of pulmonary doc, go to handling doctors 101. I have schooled others and I'm sure Sleeprider, bonjour and others have held classes before. I'm not prideful, and I'm not guru class yet, but I'm getting lots closer thanks to incompetent Dr. Quacky McDuck and all his peep siblings that are RTs, nurses and other medical experts. None top my former pulmonary Duck that phoned this Tuesday past. I sincerely advise you to brush up on respectful yet adamant requests to be treated properly medically. Just because Charlie Brown has MD as a title has no entitlement or higher enlightenment that excuse ignorance or incompetence.

PS yeah maybe it is just a PAP machine error, but to be safe include medical checking for reasoning within reason.

Some good ideas and thank you.

Yesterday i was very concious to ask about RR and nothing odd was noted, although i cant recall the figure quoted and in fact, things went very well.

I have just sent an email to where i bought the machine and asked them for ideas on how to get the machine checked and about a replacement machine when mine is in being checked. So as soon as i hear from them, which could be a few days, i will make a decision as to what i should do.

I really am leaning towards a machine fault. Yes i probably do Hyperventilate Noctournally a bit, but certainly not at 50 for hours on end. That would absolutely kill your chest and result in aches of some sort. Plus Flow Rates and Minute Vent Rates do not concur....... I'll advise whats happening when i get to hear back off the supplier and if not in a few days, i will call them.

I have 100% confidence in the Cardiac Spec and his being called away is probably to be expected. We were chatting but he is also the Resident cardiac Specialist for the hospital so i figure it must have been something very important as his #2 explained. I honestly feel if he had something important to mention or discuss, that he certainly would have done so either then, or in the last few days since i sent him the charts. Yesterday he just got caught up. I'm honestly very comfy in his care and cool with him..... but the Respiratory Specialist i have is not worth 2c

I'm waiting for a reply from the supplier with advice and meanwhile i will check out Pulse Oximeters etc, but gheeze, at the moment i cant buy much cause the medical bills are sending me bust. Bloody killing me

OK I understand and was the same as the impression I'd gotten on your mention on the cardiac doc and your doc/patient relationship.

There is no way you would not be aware of a respiration rate over 50, and it is very easy to see how such a faulty flow rate could result from a faulty sensor or circuit in the machine. I would ask the supplier for a loaner, pending replacement if it is shown your machine is defective.

From what i recall, pre-conversion was around 71bpm and after cardio conversion it was 66bpm.

Most of the times i am between 62-74bpm and i only exceed those boundaries after doing exercise, which is a 4 mile walk 3 times per week.
