Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet question.

Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet question.
After a 2.5 yr. hiatus from CPAP, I'm back on it. Last Wednesday afternoon, I dug my machine out and set it back up for use. Wednesday night went well and my machine was as quiet as it's ever been.

Friday night, I noticed some low volume "moaning" that I though was coming from where the air hose plugs into my face mask. I unplugged the hose several times and then reconnected it. The noise remained.

Last night (Friday) the "moaning noise" noise was even louder. So much so, that I didn't try to use my machine. The noise only occurs when I inhale. Exhaling it's fine.

The noise seems to be coming from the air filter end of the machine. I closely examined the seals in the water chamber well of the machine. Both seem to appear to be fine and in good shape.

I even tried the block-off plate attachment that you can use when you don't want to use the humidifier. The noise remained.

My machine has 6747 total hours on it. I received it in Sept. of 2018. I know that I'm qualified for a new machine once it's 5 yrs. old. I won't be seeing my family doctor until Aug. 1st for a follow-up exam. He's the same doctor that prescribed me my CPAP back in 2018.

My question is, has anyone experienced a problem similar to the one I'm posting about? I've done everything that I can think of to get rid of the moaning noise. I stopped by a local medical equipment store today. They sell CPAP's but don't repair them. And, they don't do any insurance claims or processing. Cash only sales.

Any and all suggestions, tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.  Smile

RE: Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet question.
Big Guy;
Did You change the inlet air filter ??
When You inhale the turbine speeds up if the filter
is restricted it might make noise because its working
to hard to pull air through a partially plugged filter ..
If You don't have a replacement filter just remove
it long enough to test without one ..

The air filter is clean, and I always have a ton of them on hand. That's the 1st thing I checked when I started out the "what's wrong" process.

I've also changed masks as well. No difference. I forgot to mention, that when I have the water reservoir in it, I watch it and the water bubbles when I inhale only. It never did that prior.

The more I look into it, the more convinced I am thinking one of the silicon seals in the water reservoir well is bad.

Although they both look okay, the water bubbles when I inhale. Has anyone changed them out before on their own? If so, is it a tough task?

Any links showing how it's done?  Eat-popcorn

Big Guy;
I don't know about the AS 10 but the As 11 has 1 seal on the water tank
and the other on the replacable outlet tube .. That is held in by a plastic
clip .. So they are both easy to replace ..
You might check Youtube for a tank seal replacement video ..
On My AS 11 the water moves on inhale and gets calm on exhale .. So that
may not be a problem ..  But it can't hurt to replace the tank seals .. That
could be the problem ..  Was the machine stored with the tank installed ??

Yes, my machine was stored with the water reservoir in it. I should have removed the tank.  Oh-jeez

RE: Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet question.
it's a good thing to try but if the seal weren't good on the humidifier i'm pretty sure you would hear something else and see a leak on the data and not hear "moaning". what happens if you try a mask seal test? you should record the sound with your phone but to me it's more likely the motor is dying Sad the air intake is directly connected to the motor after all and the motor ramps up on inhale. maybe try to set it to cpap mode with 15cm see if the noise is related to higher pressures ?

i'm no engineer but isn't it possible the bearing got f*** somehow by not running for 2y? does seem short to me but what kind of bearings are inside these things?

i would try to call the doc see if he can help before aug 1st.. it's "just" a renewal after all.

The water bubbling in the water reservoir is a mystery to me. It does it though in only one corner, and on the same side as the air outlet port.

I lowered my max pressure from 12 to 10. If I don't see any improvement, I will call my doctor and see if he can start the purchase authorization process.

The DME supplier that I had, is no longer in business, or else they have moved away.

BTW.....my wife listened to the noise and say's it's more of a whining noise than a moaning noise.

It could very well be motor bearings then ..

The air bubbles in My AS 11 because of the way it flows thru the water tank ..
The air comes in and has to make a 180 degree turn to go out the other
port to the hose .. I think it does that to pick up enough humidity ..

If Your doctor is doing the paper work to get You a new machine ..
Use this one until the new one arrives ..

I thought that SuperSleeper or SleepRider had an AS/AC 10 blower motor
replaced and the rest of the machine reconditioned and zero houred
for a very reasonable price by a factory authorized repair center ..
it would make a great backup machine ..
Good Luck

I never noticed the water bubbling before when I was using it. But, your explanation does makes sense.

Does anyone know if the ResMed AirSense 10 Autoset is still available for sale? I have a ton of new supplies for mine, and I'm not sure if they would fit an 11 AutoSet or not.

That, and I'm familiar with my 10. Not crazy about learning to use a new machine............ Oh-jeez
