Resmed F40 Headgear swap out

Resmed F40 Headgear swap out
I love my Resmed f40 facemask but, after trying all sizes, I hate the straps on the headgear. They don't sit right on my head. Can I use the  f30 headgear? To clarify, it does not have to be a perfect fit. Just better than what I have. What other headgear is compatible?
Thanks,
Anna

For most, when it comes to face masks and headgear, it's pretty much hit or miss. I make do with three masks. The AirFit F20, F30, and F40.

My favorite is the F30. But, when I feel I need a change, that's what I do.

Give it a try and see if you can make it work. Let us know how you did.  Smile

Possibly, though the F30 headgear is essentially one size fits all, which is fine for those with larger heads, but was consistently too big for me

RE: Resmed F40 Headgear swap out
Anna Bee,

I also have some issues with the F40 headstraps, and my solution was to modify one of them.  For me, the problem was the difference between the strap going over the head, and the straps holding the mask in place.  If I used a large strap to accomodate the over-head strap, it made the mask straps too short to tighten.  If I used a small headstrap it would tighten well, but would pull the mask up into my nose which would eventually cause pain.

So, my solution was to lengthen the over-head strap by cutting it and using superglue to attach an extender.

For me, I wish Resmed would have just allowed the over-head strap to be variable as they do with other masks.  But....

Anyway, hope this helps.

I think it is time to take the leap into making my own modifications.

Big Guy, The F30 has the 3rd adjustment point at the top of the head and I am interested to try it. What do you like about the mask over the F40?

Don't get me wrong, I like the F40, but the F30 just seems to hit home for me. The extra bit of hose that comes on the F40 just seems to get in the way at times.

Anyways, I need to get better at using my CPAP. I'm sleeping fine at nights and it's been well over 1.5 weeks since I've masked up.  Eat-popcorn

I think that the head gear for the F30 is the week point of the mask

here are 2 alternatives that may work on the F40

F&P Headgear for Evora Full Face # 400EVF121 standard

I like the F&P better

I had tried several ResMed masks, not the F40 though. After too little hit and too much miss, I went with Fisher and Paykel mask brand. I used the Simplus and Vitera standard type full face, and most recently the Evora Full, a hybrid with full face lower and nasal cradle upper. I will be using this Evora Full once I get the machine needed.

I do not work for F&P BTW

RE: Resmed F40 Headgear swap out
I was unable to get reasonable AHI numbers with various mask and sizes.  I finally realized I needed to get a good, repeatable mask seal before I could make any improvements or pressure changes.

I swapped the headgear on my F40 with the headgear from my F20.  Both headgears use the same attachment methods.

The F40 mask headgear pulls the frame/cushion backward and upward.

The F20 mask headgear pulls the frame/cushion backward.  If you look at images of the two masks you can see the strap angles are different.

My numbers went from twenties to below 5 for the last four nights.
