Snores or a farting mask?
Over the course of the last few months, I've developed a robust snore. I've never had one before. However, I'm wondering if the snore is extrapolated from a leak? See how, in this example, the phrasing of the snore exactly corresponds to the shape of the leak?

RE: Snores or a farting mask?
I think you may be onto something HalfAsleep. For me personally, I have noticed snoring in 2 different instances. 1 - I used to hear myself snore as I would fall asleep or wake up (and even snort). Dave (Sarcastic) told me here that snoring is just a step below a flow limitation. Then comes hypopnea. Then obstructive apnea.
The other time I noticed snoring was during my sleep study. When they put me on a bilevel without back up rate, I started snoring like crazy. If any experts on snoring want to post, please feel free to do so also.

RE: Snores or a farting mask?
I know from experience that I occasionally snort in my sleep (pre PAP), but the snoring is new. And the thing is, the PAP doesn't have ears. I suppose you're right that it indicates a flow limitation: that would make logical sense. I suppose that also means the pressure isn't high enough for treatment.

RE: Snores or a farting mask?
When I was using the Autoset machine, my snore and leak lines were always flat zeros. And yet...my husband complained that I was snoring every night. Somehow that machine didn't seem to pick it up.
The Aircurve now shows snoring at the same time every night (right at the end of my first, deep sleep cycle), and shows occasional leaks around the snoring episodes. I don't know if they're truly related (i.e. leaks trigger snoring, or snoring triggers movement that triggers leaks), but they do seem to hang out together in the data. I doubt that this additional info helps answer your question, but I had been wondering about it myself, and now I know I'm not the only one. |
