The information is all about compliance. There is insufficient data to do anything more than that. My DME has told me that after the 13 months, I can have the modem disabled. If I have to send the machine in for warranty repair, I can have the modem disabled. The modem is just a convenience for reporting information. For some people, the modem is used to adjust settings for someone who is home bound or rural and doesn't know how to do the settings themselves.

For me it's far more about:
1 - Discovering the astonishing level of incompetency of Canada's "free" healthcare system when it comes to SA (yay Socialism), and deciding I was WAY better off managing and monitoring myself (for the most part).

2 - the fact I bought a USA device for CAN, and I'm pretty sure the modem is useless anyways due to carriers.

3 - not sleeping with a transmitting cell phone 2 feet from my head for the next ??yrs if there is absolutely no reason to.

4 - I like taking stuff apart, and you're right... it is my money.

It's not good to assume your perspective of a situation is the only that can exist Wink

Cheers.

I was "corrected" about the AS10 having a cellular modem. Conventionally, a wifi modem would make sense especially in Canada where mobile phone rates are one of the highest in the world. Having looked at my machine (I am in Canada) I see that Resmed has a service agreement with Telus. It makes sense that your DME would pay for the use of the cellular data. Perhaps this explains why online CPAP suppliers have raised their prices on machines as well. It has to be absorbed by someone and the someone is always the consumer.

A cellular modem within a device other than a phone opens a huge can of worms. Security is not the biggest component, but one's right to privacy is. It'll be interesting to see if other devices and products start to have this ability. The first thing that comes to my mind is one's television set...we all should know that our privacy is almost comprised in some way when we log into the internet, just ask any law enforcement officer specializing in internet security.

That's what those alien-abductees do when they wear those tin-foil hats. They say the alien motherships can't read their brainwaves that way. So heck, if it works for alien waves, certainly it will work for plain old everyday radio waves.. Wave <-- alien wave.

But seriously, I don't like "big brother" type monitoring systems of any type either, so if I could, I would find a way to disable such systems as quickly as I could without riling up the DME or insurance people. But I do agree that it's much, much more likely that your cell phone or laptop could be hacked into. How many roving gangs of "CPAP hackers" are there going to be sitting outside of your house trying to siphon off your AHI data as it makes it's way into "the cloud"?

I agree with you, but with my health issues, I personally am not going to lose my -hard-to-get-any-way-precious-sleep. I just want to sleep.
I enjoy being with a group who like to share their "Hosehead" experiences, to remind me I am not alone.

it'd be far less wormy than having it on the internet, subject to roving bands of hackers.

and, while most people are within cell range, there's still a lot that don't have wifi.

an APAP with WIFI so the doc can think of tweaking your system while you're asleep? I don't think that really happens.
More likely some lint-head of a sleep lab tech will mess with it based on incomplete data and you end up losing your therapy
efficacy.
Then again those UFO aliens might think it's fun to try and blow your mask off your head while you sleep.

(They flew 20,000 light years out here just for this?)

of course, but privacy is a big issue these days. funny how it hasn't trickled down to the internet.

in canada the vast majority of people have internet and wifi. we have countless of [free] wifi hotspots from our internet providers. heck, some folks even "borrow" their wifi from their neighbors. lol.

You just have to look at all the devices now including a wifi component. Cars, Light bulbs, door locks, remotes, alarms, cameras, kitchen appliances, laundry appliances. How many of these IoTs were rushed to market without any kind of security.
Using FlashAir W-03 SD card in machine. You can download your data through wifi with FlashPAP or Sleep Master utilities.

Stick it to the man, Download OSCAR and take back control of your data!

Thanks Ian. Like I didn't have enough Honey-Do projects to tackle. Mornincoffee

Lol. Looks like Florida PD have too much time on their hands. Here, they don't even have the resources to crack down on aggressive or bad drivers never mind a new tougher law on holding a cellphone while driving.
