SoClean & other CPAP cleaning machines
RE: skin irritation [SoClean to blame?]
I had a similar reaction to using the SoClean machine. I’ve been using a CPAP for about ten years now, with no problems.
However, within a week of using the SoClean for daily cleaning of my CPAP, my eyelids and the skin around my eyes became very red and irritated. I have a history of eczema and dry skin, so I’m used to getting rashes and having to figure out what’s causing them. Since the SoClean was the only new thing I’d recently introduced, I figured it might be causing the rash.
I disconnected the SoClean, and went back to cleaning my CPAP with soap and water, and the rash has gradually gone away. I’m reasonably sure that using the SoClean was irritating the skin around my eyes.
As I said, I have a history of skin problems, so I doubt there are a lot of folks in a similar situation. In fact, I have two friends who use the SoClean, and swear by it. Just be aware that there are some of us who will have a problem with it.

Personal statement and only that: I will not be getting SoClean. I wash my mask, heated hose, and humidifier water tub maybe once every other week with very warm water and Dawn dish soap. I use the heated hose on 86 degrees F and the humidifier set on manual of 4-8. For zero days out of the past 6 months has mold, etc. developed.

RE: skin irritation [SoClean to blame?]
I saw this thread and had to share my experience and what I think is going on. I too got that irritable, itchy, dry skin on the front of my chin. I think the ozonated water is causing the irritation. When I wake up, I notice that condensate builds up on the front of my chin which is the exact spot where I experience the issue. After that, I no longer use the water that got ozonated and essentially use the machine dry. That helped a lot.

Welcome to the forum apneauser1!!

I myself use Johnson's baby shampoo, or cheaper copycat versions to wash out my cpap equipment and every couple of weeks will soak them in diluted vinegar and water for 20 mins or so. Never had a problem.

RE: skin irritation [SoClean to blame?]
I have used the soclean2 since Nov 2017 as well. Around 6 weeks ago , I developed a severe skin irritation (itching and redness). I called soclean2 and their claim is skin oil could be the cause. I washed the replacement CPAP equipment with the special neutralizes that came with so clean, but the skin irritation continues. The irritation is on the nose where the mask touches the face.  I have been using a CPAP for sleep apnea since 2011. Any idea what could be happening?

I’m not a fan of the SoClean as I don’t believe it actually cleans better than just plain soap and water.
My opinion. Smile
And I’m wondering what the “special neutralizers” are.

With that said, you have been using the SoClean since 2017 with no irritation until recently, so that might suggest your mask is the culprit.  When was the last time you replaced the cushion on your mask, or just simply washed it?

I would wash the mask parts with Dawn Liquid and warm water, rinse well.  Also try mask liners to put a barrier between your skin and the silicone.

If all else fails, see a Dermatologist.

SO CLEAN MACHINE & FRAGRANCE
I just got the soclean 2 sanitizer machine and read the documentation. It reads that you should not use any fragrant soaps to clean your pap equipment as it will interfere with the sanitizing process. I purchased  a non fragrant soap to to do the pre washing but didn't think about the wipes I was using. It has only been a week or so that I was still using the fragrant wipes in conjunction with the machine.  I can't find anything on this online but does anyone think this can cause irrevocable damage or ineffectiveness to the machine's ability to disinfect?

This is a link to discussion of ozone cleaning of cpap equipment. http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...ht=soclean
As for the fragrant wipes if you are worried about it just wash with soapy water. I do not believe any harm has been done.

RE: SO CLEAN MACHINE & FRAGRANCE
I don’t recommend using that SoClean for your cpap. I do have an ozone genorator that I will set to run for a bit and cut off if I’m going to be gone most of the day maybe once every couple of months do to my apartment is partially undergound and don’t want any mold growth.

How ever now that I have CPAP I make sure either I take it with me or I seal it in an airtight bag if I’m going to run the ozone. The seals in your CPAP and ozone will not play nice togeather.

Another note do not use an ozone generator unless you understand the risks and safety protacall on exsposer as well as things that can’t be around it do to ozone breaking it down.
