Suggestions for vetting DME?

I suspect they want a script for supplies (only!) so they won't be on the hook for a machine. They probably need some kind of paperwork before they can spend money on you.

You're probably right. 
My doctor would write me a script for whatever I need, I'm sure. I'm gonna have him look into it first anyway. I'm not so sure the rep from the insurance company was very knowledgeable about CPAP supplies. 

The machine is brand new and covered and paid for by my previous insurance company. I think this is adding to the confusion.

End result:
After much research I came to the conclusion that most DME's are crooks. I found my DME provider was unlisted but a function UCLA Sleep Medicine that bills through the hospital. They explained to me that I will be purchasing the machine outright with no rental period (which I like) and supplies should be sent to me on a schedule. Lets see how this turns out.
