Travel with CPAP
I will be travelling in Central America this summer.  How necessary is distilled water for a CPAP machine?

And I guess that will have to go in checked baggage, right?

You could use apple juice as the moisture delivery medium if you needed to...or orange juice, mango, ketchup, mustard, relish.  I wouldn't seriously advise it, but you get the idea...if it has water in it, its safe to use.  Well, not sewage, I wouldn't go that far...just use tap water if it is safe to drink.  And, empty the tray each morning just to be sure nothing grows over time, there's no staining, or no deposit of salts.

Definitely NOT in checked luggage. Almost every airliner will allow you to carry the case on board, and for reasons everyone gets.

Try CPAP and coffee. You thought you were mixed up already, this'll take it to another level.

OK seriously, if you can drink the water, you can use it in the PAP.

If you're concerned about the quality of tap water available and your accommodation has a kitchen or similar, just boil some water then let it cool before use.

Sorry.  I will carry on the CPAP - along with my scuba diving regulator.  It was the water that would go in the checked luggage.

I believe the baggage hold is not pressurized, meaning there is a risk of a water bottle rupturing. It would not be the end of the world if you clothes get wet. BUT why not eliminate the risk. Put the water bottle in a well sealed plastic bag. An ounce of prevention is better than a pond of cure.

I would not take any water. I use plain tap water at home, and will certainly do so when I travel.

It's probably worth it to look for distilled water or at least spring water. Cooking funky-smelling water and then blowing it up your nose can be pretty unpleasant :-)

(I live someplace where the water takes getting used to. LOTS of minerals. I use distilled water because I'd rather not have to chip stalactites and stalagmites out of my humidifier tank!)

Here is no requirement to use distilled water but may need a slight cleanup on the tank when you return

FWIW when in hospital 2 years ago the nurse brought some medical sealed water for my ASV. Smelled sweet. Forgot exactly what water it was but thought it odd. Definitely not on the required list though.
