Travelling with a CPAP machine

RE: Travelling with a CPAP machine
Thankyou Allanri. I have always used the humidifier so it will be interesting to try my machine without it.

I don't worry about searching out distilled water when travelling. If the local tap water is safe to drink (eg Europe, Singapore) then I use that. Otherwise I use bottled water. If any mineral deposit forms in the humidifier it can be removed with vinegar solution.

From my travel experiences:
1) Lufthansa, Qatar air and emirates do not count it as an additional carry on bag.
2) acquafina bottled water is pretty close to distilled water. Kinley is also pretty close.
3) In Greece, I used deionised water. It’s available on most car service stations (typically next to a gas station). Is about 1Euro a gallon.
4) In Italy you find deionised water in supermarkets. You can ask for water for ironing clothes there.
5) I never had to lock my machine anywhere.

RE: Travelling with a CPAP machine
I am in the UK where distilled water is difficult to obtain at a reasonable cost so Resmed suggest using 'Water'

I would not use Deionised water, whilst it is mineral free it is not considered potable (fit to drink) there is no requirement for ionised water to be fit to drink and is not tested as such. I would use tap water if it is fit to drink or bottled water and descale my humidifier when needed using either vinegar or lemon juice (which ever you prefer)

RE: Travelling with a CPAP machine
I use tap water for the humidifier all the time. I periodically descale with vinegar, but have used lemon juice and both work. I periodically disinfect every month or two with 3.5% hydrogen peroxide. At our lake cottage I use a Zero Water pitcher which has 5-stage filtration and reduces dissolved solids to near zero. The well water is very hard and has some sulfur and iron in it and after using the filter it is clean and fresh tasting and smelling. You can find one on Amazon UK "ZeroWater 12 Cup Water Filter Jug | Large Counter Or Bar Water Jug with 5 Stage Filtration System, Water Quality Meter and Water Filter Cartridge Included, 2.8 Litre". This would give you near-distilled water quality for any purpose you need.

Emirates will not let you use the machine from their power supply. You have to bring along a battery.
