[CPAP] 5 nights in.....grumpier,forgetful and very tired!

Are you not seeing any benefits at all? Ive been at it 2 months and have noticed some nice changes, but im still forgetfull, hoping that might improve, but what I am glad about is that im not seeing SPO2 levels drop to 60% as they did before treatment and Im not having several hundred apneas a night, which in itself is a massive improvment.

Looking at your charts, methinks you have already made huge improvements, but perhaps your expectations were out of sync with what's immediatly possible?

Hi,thanks for the reply. Yes,I agree..my charts look good, numbers are good....but I have noticed zero benefits from therapy so far. I have gone from 78 episodes when I did my sleep test down to less than 1 every night. Surely,I would feel benefits from that??Unfortunately, there is none.I'm still falling asleep in the afternoon, fogginess, forgetfulness still there as before. I'm at a loss.I'm going back to my doctor next week so see what he thinks.

Thought I'd add another update. I've increased my max pressure to 15 as advised here. But its just not comfortable. I keep getting woken up a few times each night with air blowing down my throat and it feels as if my cheeks are being puffed out....is that due to the increased pressure? I actually took off the mask 2 night over the past week because of it...think you can see that from the data.....any way to alleviate this?

It looks like you are getting relief from most obstructive events and the pressure swings look correlated to the flow limitation chart at times where flow limit is above about 0.20, and with snoring. Some of the limitations could be positional as a result of chin tuck. So, check your positioning.

I would be inclined to increase my start pressure slightly to 8.0 and see if a couple nights stablize at lower snores and less flow limitations.

On the close up plot from 23 AUG (friday night) I believe you were in REM sleep from 23:16 to 23:20. can you post a 12 minute close up of period of 23:08 to 23:20.

IME you are expecting waaaaay too much. This is not plug and play therapy and your organism is not a robot that can be controlled by mechanical means. XPAP may make you stuporous at first. Way worse than before xPAP. This was my experience for at least 6 weeks. Gradually, I started to make sense and feel more rested.

Your body has a lot to get used to, even after the settings are optimal. Stick with it.

HI,thanks for your advice, really appreciate it. I'm new to this site so I don't know how to do a close up....I've attached a screenshot but I don't think it's correct. Can you advise how to do a close up please?

I don't think my expectations are way too much. I'm not expecting miracles or cures. I imagine I've had sleep apnea longer than I think. So I've been having apneas and undisturbed sleep for years probably. Now that my numbers are below zero,I would have thought after 3 months,my body would be seeing some sort of benefits from those improved figures. I went to my doctor about this and he also agreed that there should be some sort of positive benefit. I'm not going to give up,I'm determined and will keep going with CPAP therapy. I'm just finding it a bit strange when I read about the transformative effects of CPAP that some users get after a few days/weeks, I have none. In fairness , I have read of some other users who are similar to me. But as you said,I will stick with it.Just hoping that experienced CPAP users here can help tweak my therapy so that I will finally see benefits.

You did great, toby2111! that was near exactly 12 minutes. However you did it, it was successful. It gave me a view of every breath
Now I can say you were definitely REM sleeping, as many publications point out, the tidal volume is much lower than in NONREM (NREM) and the respiratory rate fluctuates dramatically, and the breathing in follows directly after exhale without pauses (similar to awake breathing - not at all similar to asleep breathing.)
This further means that you got into REM less than 10 min after your sleep session began. Not many people get to REM right away. You might have been REM sleep deprived, and this would be explained as REM rebound.
This is a good result, and means your body and mind are finally able to get what they need in sleep.
