Waking up with air rushing out of my mouth

RE: Waking up with air rushing out of my mouth
I found that a good chin strap is better for me, I did try a collar, but my events shot up.
So, I bought a chin strap from China off ebay.  It had a chin strap go over the top of the head and round the back of the head, it had a "V or D" shape round the ears.  It works quite well, I bought two from two suppliers, one was a lot stronger, but was to stiff, the other was slightly stretch material and worked better, though a bit more prone to fraying, so I ran a stitch round the edges.
A collar will work for some and does indeed work for them, but i prefer to have my chin pulled up closed and the chin strap held in place by the other part going round the back of the neck.  I still get a slight leak if I sleep on my back, however, if I wake up on my back I go onto my side.  Some nights I get 0.0 AHI, but not if I sleep for long on my back, however, it is still very low around 0.2 or 0.3.
With the collar I had 6 AHI and was a bit disappointed with it, even with the chin strap it remained high.
So I stick with the chin strap on its own.

A full-faced mask will work, but not everyone can use them, they are a bit claustrophobic, you can get a hi-bride mask that covers your mouth and uses nasal pillows that come out of the top of the mask but these are not to popular, however I know a few that does use them and they like them. I have not tried one, though I would like to. You can also get a cloth mask that is full-faced and these are I am told not so claustrophobic, however, being cloth are more prone to ware and tare and need a wash every day. I would like to try one of these as well, but they are costly and prone to leaks, until you master them.
I know someone who fixed one of those stretch things you get from phisio's to work your legs and they say it stops air escaping through their mouth, so that was quite inventive, don't know about the taste though.
Good luck with what you choose to do, keep a bottle of water by your bed to take a mouthful when your mouth dries out.

I have been successful controlling mouth leaking using the Ultimate Chin Strap for 8 years.

I tried the ultimate chin strap and didn't like it. It felt more confining than a full face mask to me.

Everyone's different though.

Confinement doesn't bother me.  Mask leaking drove me to pillows, then mouth leaking drove me to the UCS.
Are you still using a FFM or pillows?  If pillows, do you have mouth leaking issues?

ted, I usually use the P10 but also use the F20. I use a small piece of tape to keep my lips closed.
