Weight loss prescriptions for sleep apnea??
Recommendations for weight loss are common, but has anyone had a sleep dr prescribe one of the new weight loss drugs?

the FDA hasn't approved it for sleep apnea yet, prescription would be premature?

it was one study by the drug maker itself which hasn't even been peer reviewed as far as i can tell.

He also says this,
Quote:In an accompanying editorial, Dr. Sanjay Patel, a sleep medicine specialist at the University of Pittsburgh, cautioned that whether tirzepatide can treat sleep apnea in real-world patients “remains unclear” because of the way improvement is measured.
Great if it works but it's still early.

On the news tonight, it was stated that the drug, Zepbound was FDA approved for sleep apnea treatment.
I don't know any details, but I'm interested to see how effective it is for OSA.
From my 20 years of using a Bipap machine, I'm ready for a new treatment; at least its worth a shot.
PAP Mode: VPAP-S
EPAP 8.4 IPAP 10.6
ave AHI = .5 (so far)

FDA has approved Zepbound for OSA. I don't think this would work for those who are not overweight, I think?

RE: Weight loss prescriptions for sleep apnea??
Depends on whether one's apnea is from weight or structural issues or both. Mine was from structural issues in that the base of my tongue where it meets my throat is just BIG. Even having UPPP surgery done was only a temp and painful delay in it coming back. I was 30 and in the military doing 1 hour of exercise then a 2.5 mile run with my squadron 3 times a week. And I was having night panic attacks.

And those weight drugs. I would caution one before jumping on that train. weight loss without diet and exercise will just result in loss of muscle mass. You will be skinny and look older than your years.
Think Keith Richard's.

If your OSA is not from overweight, can Zepbound effectively treat it?

FDA approved it for obese patients with OSA, not simply anyone with OSA.
My weight range is 140-145#, untreated my AHI is 23.5. It's CPAP or choke.

That's what I thought; so this product is irrelevant for those who aren't overweight.
