RE: Your Personal CPAP Success Story - Post Here
I just had my checkin with my sleep doctor and he said my results are excellent. Nightly myAir dashboard scores are usually between 98-100. My AHI events are typically between 2 and 3. All’s well so far, so I plan to stay the course.?

Thats great -
If you haven't done it download Oscar and see all the details - knowledge is power - The main thing past all the numbers is how you sleep and how you feel the next day... if both are great then you are good, if either can use improvement then Oscar is the tool to help with that. Not to chase a number - but to see if there is any number you can work on to improve how you feel.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. I’m also monitoring my sleep patterns with my Apple Watch 10 which so far has been tracking quite well with my CPAP data.

How bout success with a small asterisk?
Here's a typical OSCAR chart for the last couple of weeks since the change to ASV therapy. There are still a few issues to deal with to improve overall sleep quality, but I feel that this is a CPAP success as far as breathing issues are concerned. So while maybe not yet waking up feeling good and refreshed, I do feel better than before starting therapy...................and thats a good thing - and a pretty big deal so far.

Hello. Just found this message board as i was Googling "Resmed 10 putting out foul air". I don't have sleep apnea but sinus problems and have been using the Resmed 10 now for 5 years with great results. 2 months short of 5 years it started putting out the burnt smell, exactly the same issue as discribed in older posts. I replaced the motor as discribed in a Youtube video and got the machine to work fine for 3 days. Last night it started again. Extremely fustrating as i don't sleep well without it. Hopefully I should be getting the new model in several week but very disappointed to read this is not an uncommon problem. Just hope to have better luck with the Resmed 11.

Do you sleep with the humidifier on?
Have you changes to a new hose? Have you switched to a new mask? Did you switch to a new tank? .When replacing the motor did you clean everything while you had it apart? Did you switch to a new filter pad? Assuming all the common things are done have you tried turning down the heat under the tank, i.e. humidification level to 0 but tank still full of water. Do you run out of water overnight? Do you use parts made by third parties?

So the Resmed has been used properly and worked flawlessly for 59 months and for close to 15,000 hours. I think the mother board that feeds into the turbine capsule is done. Thinking it was the plastic components of the turbine motor, I replaced it. That was not the problem.
Last night, after 3 hours, I got the bad air. It's done.

RE: Your Personal CPAP Success Story - Post Here
My point with the questions was to nail down the source -
If all the parts mentioned have been changed that eliminates them. If parts are resemed brand then they won't use any suspect plastics that can give you that issue. If the tank is empty from high humidity settings then it can give off an odor - the machine can't tell if the tank is empty or full. If you turn off the humidifier and heated hose if you use one then feel the tank after a while and it is hot that means the relay on the main board is sticking/stuck. Generally unless abused they machines last 7~8 years. At that point they need a check/calibration/new motor. You are right at 5 years - most insurance companies will provide a new machine every 5 years. This is the medicare schedule and most private insurance companies follow it. If you paid private party there are several vendors in the "Supplier List" at the top who will take the machine, replace the motor, calibrate everything and check everything for around $300. Depends on the company but the turn-around is around a week if you contact them and cordinate with their schedule - i.e. you mail the machine 2 day to arrive the day before they are ready to work it, then they overnight or 2 day it back. When I hit 5 years on my machine I'll get a new one through insurance and keep the current one as a backup as is, or send it in for service/repair/calibration at that time.

Thank you for your help. Really appreciated. After getting use to sleep with a cpap for 5 years, it's difficult to go with out it. Also not easy to get a quick Dr appointment for a new Rx. I'll get the mini travel unit to have as back up, at my expense, of course.
Thank you again. |
