APAP response to Centrals

APAP response to Centrals
For my own learning (which I have done a lot of thanks to this forum).

I am aware that an APAP is not the right treatment for Central Apnea.  I am curious though, how does an APAP respond to a central?  Say I have the machine set to 6-15 and the machine is humming along at 6 and then I have a central.  The machine recognizes it as a clear airway.  Does it just let you go cause it knows that an increase in pressure won't help?  Or does it still try to crank up the pressure to force a breath?

Thank you,

When the apnea is detected as central, the pressure will stay the same or be reduced. I'm not sure if it takes more than one CA to cause a pressure reduction, but it also depends on where you are in relation to your pressure range. The more confusing situation is where there is flow limitations or OA near the same time as CA (mixed events).

Seemingly the APAP does offer to be very helpful and flag the CA just to let you know about it. Otherwise in more or less fashion, the APAP isn't capable of doing much else.

APAP "Hey, you just had a CA. Let me flag it. See, you had one here, here, and here."

ASV "Hey, you used to have CA events. I can't flag what you don't get."

As far as I know the CA flag gets raised but that’s it the machine moves on no pressure change at all at least that is my experience with A Resmed Autoset.
