Apap Problems
Ok I am new to the Forum. I have been reading the forum for 3 months now. I got on a Auto Pap resmed s9 with humidifier beginning of October. They set my pressure at 5-20. I wake up so tired. Have AHI of 1.4 and shows my average pressure is 8.2
My GP says I'm tired cause I am adjusting. I have been to ever specialist there is and they say I am 100% healthy. So three days last week I slept with no machine. My energy was awesome. But my blood pressure shot up and pulse stayed above 100. So last night went to sleep with machine again and slept 9 hr (8-9hr is my average night sleep). My pulse and Blood pressure is awesome. But the tires foggy feelings are back.

I called to have the dme adjust my machine and they said they won't mess with it it's a auto. Called Lung doctor. He said to adjust the machine. I was in a hurry and didn't ask what to adjust it to. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

My sleep study AHI was 9 and they never gave me a set pressure. My GP is not very helpful. So any help would be great. I have spent so much money trying to get healthy and the last few months just confused.

it would be helpful if you post a few nights of the data from rescan or sleepy head so we can look at it. It may be easier to help you if we can see what is going on when you sleep with your machine.

RE: Apap Problems
How do I do that. It was a challenge just to figure it out on the computer. I know in the 2 months I have had a ahi high of 8 and a average of 1.4.
My pressure has never went over 14 and average is 8. Leaks are very minimal.

For me, I open the detailed graphs and screen print and save it in paint and then post it. How to do it depends on your OS.

I don't know how to do all that. I tried to email it to myself to save it. Wouldn't let me. Any reading I could put up to help. Or so you need the graphs

RE: Apap Problems
For a starting point, you will want to find your 95% pressure in the ResScan reports and base your pressure settings on it. The machine is at or below the 95% pressure 95% of the time, and above it 5% of the time. Then set a range 2 or 3 above and below the 95% pressure. That's a rougher estimate than using the graphs, but it's still a good starting point. Then, you can fine-tune it from there, but you will want to wait a week or two between changes to give yourself time to adjust.

If your pressure starts at 5 and goes as high as 14, I'm sure you are experiencing some horrendous pressure swings. A tighter pressure range will reduce that. You can also try a fixed pressure equal to the 95% pressure (to start) if you like. Some people are bothered even by small pressure swings, and do better on fixed pressure.

You probably have a sleep deficit to catch up on. Also, CPAP and the mask is an adjustment that most people have to adapt to and it doesn't come easily to some and others it does.

An example: For almost 3 years, I was waking up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I was not rested and very tired and sleepy each day. My mask was part of the problem and I was not getting any help from the DME. I changed DME's 3 times but one of them was because they were not contracted with my new insurance company. Still, none of them were helpful and seemed that all they were concerned with was me ordering my supplies and bringing in money for them.

I had another sleep study which was not good. I am now having a 3rd sleep study next week. I met with the sleep lab to look at their masks because they start the test later and stop it earlier than the last sleep lab did and I didn't want to waste time trying on masks. I decided to try the wisp nasal mask (was using FFM). So far, it is working so much better. I still have leaks but they don't wake me up. I have also lowered my pressure settings and now my AHI's are 0 or .1. The headgear is so much more comfortable and I don't have a lot of my face covered with the bulky FFM. This is the first headgear that actually did not bunch up and lays flat as it should.

It is all a big trial and error. You might want to consider a different mask to see how that works as well as tightening up your pressures as Big Dave suggested.

The ffm is so far the only way I can sleep. I thought about buying a quarto fx.
