Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Hello all,
I just started my APAP journey a little under 2 weeks ago and I have a question about the Auto Ramp Function.
Device: Airsense 11 AutoSet
Pressure: 5-15
The technician enabled the Auto Ramp when the device was being set up. Does turning the Auto Ramp on or off have any effect? Given that my pressure range is between 5-15, and when I start the machine, it seems to ramp up right to the minimum pressure of 5 (according to the screen of the device), does that mean that the auto ramp is useless for my case? Does Auto Ramp offer any other feature or is it safe to turn off?
RE: Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Many choose not to use that feature. Myself, I've used it at times and did fine by it. It takes me a good hour or so to fall asleep. It's hard for me to tell any difference if it's enabled or not.
RE: Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Ramp is definitely safe and good to turn off. You get virtually no therapy during ramp. Some people are more comfortable at first with the lower pressure, but most adults feel a bit air-starved. It's kind of like training wheels. Most are much happier without it.
Also, lots of providers start folks off with a low starting pressure like 5 or even 4, But most adults are a little air-starved. Pap machines are made to meet everyone's needs, including small children. That's when those low pressures are appropriate. I suggest that you turn your starting pressure up to 7. That's a much more comfortable and therapeutic pressure than 5.

RE: Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Thank you so much for your detailed answer!
Although I know how to change the base pressure level on my Airsense 11, I am not looking to make any changes until I have a follow-up check-in with my sleep therapist. I will definitely note this for my discussion with him.
I just wanted to bring the focus back onto the question, which was that the technician enabled the Auto Ramp when the device was being set up. Does turning the Auto Ramp on or off have any effect? Given that my pressure range is between 5-15, and when I start the machine, it seems to ramp up right to the minimum pressure of 5 (according to the screen of the device), does that mean that the auto ramp is useless for my case?

RE: Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Yes, it is useless. I would turn it off if I were you. I would also raise the starting pressure to 7. I'm sure you would be more comfortable. It's your therapy, and you can take control if you want to. Lots of us here take over our own therapy with help from experienced people on this forum who help us for free. It saves a lot of money, moves things along more quickly, and, in my case, it makes me happy and secure about my treatment

Ah, understood! I figured that was the case. Why have Auto-ramp if the base pressure level is the same level as where the ramp starts anyways? XD
I guess I can turn off Auto-ramp without any expected changes to my APAP therapy!
Thank you so much for your guidance and advice!!
RE: Airsense 11 Autoset - Question about Auto Ramp
Velderes;
Your AS-11 starts at 4cmh2o so it ramps from 4 to 5 cmh2o ..
Most people have a difficult time sensing such a small change ..
The ramp being worthless is something You should decide for Yourself ..
Deborah Ks suggestion to raise Your min. pressure to 7 or 8 is because most
people feel air starved at pressure less then that ..
Good Luck
P.S. I posted the same answer on the other site ..
