[CPAP] Taking mask off in sleep

Taking mask off in sleep

Hi all, I am looking for some help with CPAP therapy as I am at wit's end and don't know what to try next. I am falling asleep fine while using the device CPAP, but am taking the mask off and turning the machine off in my sleep (no memory of it) every night after about 30-50 minutes of usage. I've attached the final minute or so of last night's data; is there anything that stands out as a potential reason why this might be happening?

Thank you so so much in advance!

Probably the large leaks disturbing your sleep? possibly mouth breathing, i can't really tell from the picture.

have a look at the wiki it might help.

Hi,

Unfortunately, your graphs show only 53 seconds of your night, as on zoomed view.

Please repost without zooming, so as so see exactly when you removed your mask, and hopefully identify the preceeding event/events that provoked this/these removals.

Thanks

RE: Taking mask off in sleep
Two things.  First, any anomalies occurring at the end of your sleep session can be attributed to "Sleep-Wake-Junk" (SWJ).  This is when your body is transitioning from a sleep mode (with rhythmic respiration) to an awake mode (sporadic respiration).  There is nothing to be concerned about.  With an AHI of 0.0, don't go looking for problems, you will always find one.

The second item is when taking a screenshot in OSCAR, please use the F12 key.  We don't need to see your calendar. Big Grin

Understood - so there's nothing in this data that might indicate the reason I'm taking the mask off in my sleep?

Please read the link in my signature “Formatting OSCAR Charts”. We need to see those specific graphs.

A 53-minute chart does not provide much information. If you have a longer night that would be helpful.

Some of us REALLY have to work at keeping the mask on! I've been there.

And you're using a P10...very easy to throw it off.

Try whatever it takes to provide a few more hours of Oscars, since you might very well be responding to something in the settings...

Could you splint a finger or two that will make it difficult for you take the mask off or turn off the machine without waking you up? Tape the mask to your face?

RE: Taking mask off in sleep
Some people tape the side of their mask to their cheeks.  That can help you realize you shouldn't touch it, or it can wake you enough to make you stop, or at least put it back on.  I think it's worth a try. Smile

RE: Taking mask off in sleep
Gotcha, thanks all! Unfortunately the 53 minutes last night is close to the longest night I have since starting last month. I will try taping the mask and wearing socks on my hands or something similar to make it harder to take off.
