Difference between APAP and AUTO-S

Difference between APAP and AUTO-S
I've recently learned that AUTO-S, even though it is a bi-level mode, serves a similar goal as APAP, that is to relieve the sleep disorder situation, unlike other bilevel modes like ST or AVAPS. But I am just curious that why couldn't these two modes be integrated into one device? So people could choose as their will?
I am really a new beginner in this field, so this question maybe silly somehow. I would appreaciate any comments.

RE: Difference between APAP and AUTO-S
The ResMed AutoSet deliver pressure, when properly configured, that is indistinguishable from a "Auto-S" or VAuto that is set match. This includes a PS of 1. 2, or 3.

The BiLevels are capable of much higher levels of PS and a max of 25 cmw vs the 20 cmw of a CPAP. BiLevels also have other settings that may be used in some circumstances.

RE: Difference between APAP and AUTO-S
Thank you Gideon for your detailed reply, can I possibly consider that the AUTO-S is an advanced version of APAP? Also, do you think that combining these two modes, APAP and AUTO-S on one device could be of some use?

RE: Difference between APAP and AUTO-S
FqnkoGo, what brand and model machine are you using? In Resmed, there is no mode called Auto-S. There is CPAP, Autoset or Auto-CPAP, VPAP (bilevel) in VPAP-S or Vauto. Please consider filling in your profile. https://www.apneaboard.com/forums/usercp.php
