I've been missing...

I've been missing...
my bed. Since my CPAP died on 8/30 I've been sleeping (poorly) in my recliner. I wake up gasping and making other unpleasant sounds all night. I've taken it apart and fiddled with it to no avail while I've tracked down my original diagnosis from 2007 so I could get a prescription for a replacement. After so many nights not sleeping I thought I'd give it one more try. Must have reset something this time because it's working again. So, I'm going to sleep in my own bed tonight for the first time this month!  Bed

RE: I've been missing...
Glad you got your machine working, but you may want to start the process of getting a new machine now.
Don’t wait until this one breaks down again.   Sad

Have your located your sleep study reports?  Do you have a copy of your first prescription?
Your GP or any doctor you have been seeing should be able to write that script for you.
Also, check with your insurance now to check your eligibility and if any cost to you.

Once you receive a new machine, keep this one as a backup.

Try to get a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. This is what I will get when ready for a replacement.

Good luck!

RE: I've been missing...
This story is why many of us have backup machines. It would have been pretty easy to find a machine in your local Craigslist, and your documentation is probably sufficient to register a prescription at most online stores. Money may be tight, but I know I have a priority not to strangle every night in the course of sleep.

Why did you not immediately contact a local sleep doctor to get an appointment and a new prescription for a new machine? No insurance? I have set money aside just for this type of thing, and if it happens I should be able to buy my own machine, if for some reason I don't have insurance or they wont pay for a new machine.

Well, I remember a big reason why I stopped using it. I woke up this morning with an irritated nose and sore chest from some sort of bacterial gunk inside the machine. Having taken it apart to clean it I hoped I could improve it. Unfortunately that's not the case and I don't want to make myself sick. The original diagnosis and prescription for a replacement was faxed to Lincare on Monday. I also got a separate prescription for a backup machine I can use outside of Medicare coverage. Wife's collecting pop cans to help pay for it. It just takes time to get things worked out when you're on a fixed income. I was just excited about sleeping in my bed and getting a good nights sleep. Didn't really happen, but it was worth a try.

Yeah, won't allow myself to get in this position again. That was a mistake.

Untill your new machine comes in, try purchasing a foam wedge to use on your bed.
You can also buy those blocks that can raise the head of the bed by a few inches, but I think a wedge might help.

Because of other health issues I have an adjustable hospital type bed. When it comes to keeping my head in an upright position for breathing at night, my recliner with a large neck pillow is more effective.
