RE: How do I succeed in maximizing apneas?
Don't worry about it. If you feel like crap without xPAP treatment and feel good with it, carry on! I find the way I feel on any given day is closely tied to my RERA and not so much to my AHI. My AHI on my machine is low generally, but if I feel like crap all day I come home, look at my RERA and sure enough it is way above 20 events. My machine tends to help keep my RERA down, but some nights it is still high. Sometimes you have to treat the symptoms regardless of what the "generally accepted" numbers say.
As always, YMMV! You do not have to agree or disagree, I am not a professional so my mental meanderings are simply recollections of things from my own life.
