RE: Goiter surgery
I'm unable to help with your enlarged thyroid as I've never experienced this problem, but if I had... I would be seeking a specialist for advice.
Are you seeing a specialist to treat your thyroid, and what has he/she suggested? From everything I've read on this subject, a goiter (enlarged thyroid) definitely can (depending on the size of goiter) affect the upper airway. The pressure you are using is already quite high and should be able to keep your airway open. But an enlarged thyroid may be interfering. Many of us here suffer not just with sleep apnea, but many other illnesses that affect our sleep. We can certainly help you with pressure settings and offer advice on your apnea, but again... you should be seeking out advice for your thyroid from your doctor. Since you have downloaded OSCAR, take a Screenshot of the daily page and upload it here. We can take a look at your data and see if we can offer improvement. Use the link below on Organizing your chart and then use the Attachment Feature to post it here.

RE: Goiter surgery
Since it is your thyroid, are they going to perform surgery or irradiate it?

RE: Goiter surgery
I bet the good people on this forum would help if they could. You still have an issue, whether we can help, or not. We are not purposely leaving you hanging. OpalRose has a good suggestion, if you want help with the obstructive apnea, post some data.
Here are my two notes. One, effective apnea treatment can serve to reduce inflammation. And, I don't believe it targets only breathing related inflammation. Two, I have found many answers by consulting pub med records. I usually browse the Internet, just type a few terms, followed by "nih", and see what studies pop up. Good luck, QAL

RE: Goiter surgery
Hi Newguy1
I'm in the same boat - also have goiter (because of hashimotos) causing sleep apnea. Did a CPAP trail but it didn't work for me, still kept waking with a gasp. Only position I can sleep in where I don't wake immediately is on front with head angled down off pillow, hugging another pillow to keep position. B12 helps a lot - give this a try. I do B12 injections, but I also have coeliac so tablets should be fine if your digestion's ok. Read online that others have shrunk their goiter with iodine so I'm giving this a try. Haven't read great responses from people who've had thyroid surgery, so reluctant to do this. Hope this helps |
