Half Night Sleep Maybe

Half Night Sleep Maybe
Been using the machine for 2 weeks.  Already switched from the face mask to nasal pillow.  Go to sleep fine but half way through the night I feel a suffocating amount of pressure and take it off.  I also have asked doctor to drop the pressure.  It's not going well because I end up sleeping on side and twisting an turning.  The whole point of trying the device again is to help sleep like a normal human for 8 hours.  Anything else is useless.  Only have time and energy to work.  No time for gym and exercise.  Very depressing.

Have you already, or can you do so in this thread, post a detailed redacted copy of your sleep study? Post an OSCAR chart from sleep sessions as well. This helps us know what's going on to get a basis for suggestions that will help you.
Mask Primer

Positional Apnea

Attach OSCAR, etc.

RE: Half Night Sleep Maybe
If this is your second try at this, it’s possible your apnea has worsened over the period of time you’ve gone untreated.  The good news is we can try to get you back on track.

Check to see if your machine has an SD card in it.  If not purchase one.  They are inexpensive.
Next, download the OSCAR software.  Please follow the links in my signature line for guidance.
Once you have that set up, using the attachment feature, post a couple screenshots of the daily page.

In the meantime, order the Clinicians Manual for your machine if you don’t already have one. Be sure to specify the exact name of your machine when ordering.
This manual will show you the ins and outs of your machine and how to adjust pressure and comfort settings.

Also, if you switched from a full face mask to nasal pillow, be sure you changed the setting in your machine to reflect that.

Shouldn't my doctor provide me more info. I have simple analysis. My sleep is disrupted by the machine. I can't sleep. If I wake up full of life there is good analysis.

It wasn't left untreated unless you count the first 33 years of my life. Doctor's didn't catch until then. I wore the MAS for 5 years and it wore out.

First time I tried cpap was with Kaiser. They are not great and maybe let me try old machine. Now with Stanford and not impressed.

Yes, your Doctor should provide help and information.  Apparently he’s not, or you wouldn’t be here.

EDITED: I haven’t heard of many folk that have been successful wearing a M.A.S. (Mandibular Advancement Splint.) Do you feel it helped?

And your not alone.  Doctors are getting better at detecting sleep apnea, but they just aren’t there yet.  I’m positive I suffered with this for at least 15 yrs before being sent for a sleep study.

You will find as many of us have, there are very few DME’s out there that you can trust or that are willing to help.  That’s why we’re here, we can help.  Please follow the instructions I gave in my above post and get started.  There are many knowledgeable folk here that will jump in and advise once you post your data.

RE: Half Night Sleep Maybe
MAS is not mask, its Mandibular advancement splint. I used the dental solution which was professionally molded not the over the counter stuff you can buy at a local store.

I also e-mailed doctor about the massive pressure waking me up. All my sleep studies were at home which is bologna. The doctor should let me sleep overnight and see what is going on.

My sleep study worked great. 220 Apneas; 190 hypopneas, 25 central Apneas, 4 obstructive apnea and 1 mixed ...my doctor said I may need a different type of machine because of central apnea but they worked themselves out thankfully. I did have to recently clarify that with him because on my follow up, the NP was clueless about centrals and said auto cpaps clear centrals, which is false. But in an effort to make you more comfortable about home studies mine went great. Insurance is who makes the decision on home or lab studies. It not the docs fault at all. As you’ll come to realize insurance is behind a lot that makes you say “what the hell is going on here”

RE: Half Night Sleep Maybe
Welcome to the Board!
I don't know anyone that wanted to use a cpap or other machine.
What I know is that using my machine really helps me. So I've missed one night in over 30 years of use.
I wouldn't think of doing without it.
I have friends that have worse sleep apnea than I do who were diagnosed about a year ago. Over 70 years old.

People here have taught me so much; being a participant here has really improved my sleep quality. I feel better. I had to ask questions and listen well to make progress.

Hang in there. It's worth it.

I'm just a cpap user like you. I don't give medical advice. Seek the advice of a physician before seeking treatment for medical conditions including sleep apnea. Sleep-well

RE: Half Night Sleep Maybe
In an ideal world you would get attentive help from your doctor. Apparently you are out of luck there, as most of us are. But you will get wonderful help here if you do as has been suggested and start using Oscar and post a chart. Very experienced people will be able to advise you about whether to try changes in your settings, including the pressures that are bothering you.

But the first steps are up to you: SD card, Oscar, posting a screenshot. If you have trouble with ANY of those steps, just let us know and we will help you.
