How 'real' are events recorded by machine?

How 'real' are events recorded by machine?
I spent 15 mins the other day just lying on me bed experimenting with a new mask, adjusting tensions... and my Airsense 10 recorded a half-dozen events!

Then last night, for the first hour I was being plagued by a tiny leak under one eye and removed and repositioned the mask several times, also tweaking the straps, before switching off for a short period (see graph). Again, events are recorded and I know that I was not asleep.

So how real are these events?

The machine does not know when you are awake therefore some judgement is necessary when viewing events. It just records apnea events as long as it is turned on and you are breathing with it. It is not a matter of real or not. It is a matter of whether it is an apnea or it is a sleep apnea.

Thanks Payton - Are 'waking apnoeas' a thing? I thought that I'd be aware of them happening.

And now I'm beginning to doubt the manual's claim that, "If Ramp Time is set to auto, the machine will detect when you have fallen asleep and increase pressure..."

(Not that I use Ramping)

Regards... Jon

We tend to disregard central apnea in particular when it is near the beginning and end of sleep, or when clear signs of sleep disturbance are present. Your event rate is kind of high, but taking into account when the events occurred, it would be premature to recommend changes. Most of the night looks pretty good once you got settled. Holding your breath when you're awake is not sleep apnea. The machine can only record events that are programmed into the logic. If it detects a low or no airflow for 10 seconds it flags the event, awake or not.

Ah - I understand. Thanks. I did notice & wonder about the pattern of event clusters near the start and ends of sessions (in this chart)

PS further to my other thread comparing my new machine to the older loaner, this chart was the 3rd night with the new machine :-)
